4 Introduction Purpose This Guide to Scholarships & Fellowships is meant to be a tool to help you identify competitive and prestigious scholarships and fellowships that may be of interest to you, and to provide preliminary information about each opportunity. These opportunities range from one- time monetary awards to entrance into ongoing academic programs; from study abroad stipends to domestic research grants; from summer enrichment programs to essay competitions; and so much more. How to Use this Guide If you are not sure where to begin, Section One of this guide will help you narrow your search and identify which opportunities might be right for you, based on your current year and general interests. Wherever possible, minimum GPA requirements are listed in this section. Please note that in this section opportunities are organized by the year in which you are eligible to apply; however, it is recommended that you also consider opportunities for which you may be eligible in the future. For instance, if you are a Junior, you may want to consider opportunities listed for Seniors as well, so that you can prepare yourself to apply next year. Section Two contains quick- reference information about each opportunity. You will see a brief Overview, a list of Benefits offered by the opportunity, any Eligibility requirements, the month in which the Application is Due, and a Website to find more information. In some cases, a Faculty/Staff Advisor will be listed as well. If an Advisor is specified, it is strongly recommended (and in some cases required) that you contact that individual in order to pursue the award. A full list of Advisors is available on the next page. Several entries in this Guide actually represent multiple opportunities, consolidated under a single organization or program. For instance, the entry for Golden Key Scholarships actually encompasses a variety of individual scholarships available through the Golden Key Society. For full descriptions of these individual scholarships, it is best to see the website listed. Other Resources to Consider Please keep in mind that this Guide is not an exhaustive resource. Many more opportunities are available online. If you are interested in Study Abroad, more opportunities are available through International Programs, located in the Center for Experience & Opportunity or online: mcdaniel- plan/special- opportunities/study- abroad/scholarships- for- study- abroad. If you are interested in opportunities having to do with Foreign Languages, please consider visiting the Foreign Language Department, located in the lower level of Baker Memorial Chapel, or online: mcdaniel- plan/departments/foreign- languages (under the Resources tab). 3
