There is plenty of seating. Seniors participating in the ceremony are required to attend graduation practice on Friday, June 7 at 7:30 a.m. After practice the Yelm Cinemas will host all our seniors to lunch and an assortment of movies. This is an incredible gift given to our students by all the folks at Yelm Cinemas. Parents, if you have any questions about your student s graduation status, please call their counselor immediately. The counselors have met with each senior twice this year about graduation status and have that information readily available. Seniors must have all the graduation requirements met before the ceremony in order to participate at the Tacoma Dome. New Football Coach YHS FBLA Students are Going to Nationals Congratulations to Yelm FBLA for their amazing performance at the FBLA State Business Leadership Conference in Spokane. Our students placed in the Top 5 in three events. The 9th grade team of Logan Jenny, Andrew Troyer, and David Emmons placed 2nd in Computer Game and Simulation Programming. Nathan Carlson, 11th grader, took 3rd in Computer Applications, and Erin Sojak, 11th grader, took 4th place in Spreadsheet Applications. Logan, Andrew, David, and Nathan advance to the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California, June Erin is an alternate and will attend if any of the 3 top finishes decide not to attend. We are also proud of Sean Carver, 11th grader, who made it to the finals, which is the Top 15, in his Public Speaking II event. The Yelm FBLA Chapter also got an award/plaque for the 3rd Largest Chapter in the Capital Region. The national conference in Anaheim will cost approximately $1,000 per student including 6 nights lodging, airfare, and registration. We are hoping to get support from our local chapter through fundraising efforts already completed throughout the school We are so happy that Jason Ronquillo has been hired to teach PE and coach our football program. Jason is an amazing educator and a coach with a stellar background. Currently, Jason teaches PE and coaches football at Hoquiam High School. His teams have improved each of his six years as coach and made the state playoffs each of the last three years. Coach Ronquillo has already begun putting his football staff together for next year, and has held multiple meetings with the area youth coaches. Already, the athletes from all sports are flocking to after school training to be in better shape next fall. Jason will be on campus several times during the last few weeks of school, and then will be here full time getting ready for fall. Please take the time to give Jason a warm welcome. year, ASB support from both YHS and YMS, and we will go out and try to get local sponsorship. This is the first time we have qualified in multiple events in the last 16 years. Not only did they perform well at state, but they were one of the most professional, respectful, and responsible groups Mrs. Blowers has taken on an over night event in a long time. Our President, Shayna Shankle truly showed her leadership abilities with this group. Thanks to all of you for your support of the Yelm FBLA Chapter.

We are getting down to the end of the year which means prom season! Last week was spirit week, Monday was sports day, Tuesday was hero/multiplicity day, Wednesday was Disney Day, Thursday was throwback Day and Friday we showed our school spirit with Red and Black day. The Voices of Youth committee also sponsored a safe and sober campaign for prom. Along with prom we just had speeches for next years class and ASB Officers. It was a lot of fun and all the candidates did an amazing job. The next big event we planned and enjoyed was the Staff vs Student basketball game on May 3rd. Of course the students came out on top again! Just a reminder that if your student wants to be in Leadership next year, students need to talk to Mrs. Waltermeyer in the front office for more information. On behalf of Leadership and Voices of Youth students, we hope everyone had an awesome time at prom and a safe and fun summer. ~ McKenzie DeVore, ASB President

3 Page 3 Counselor Corner Now is a critical time for Seniors to make sure they are wrapping up all of the final "To-Dos." Culminating projects should be completed High School and Beyond Plans on WOIS should be up-todate and near completion. Caps and gowns should have been ordered. All seniors should review their credit status and make sure all graduation requirements have been met so nothing interferes with graduation. It is the policy of Yelm Community Schools that seniors must complete ALL graduation requirements to be allowed to participate in graduation ceremonies. SENIORS IMPORTANT INFO! CAP and GOWN Seniors if you have not ordered your cap and gown you need to do so immediately by visiting Herff Jones website at hjgraduation.com. YHS is not using the same gown style as in past years. A new gown must be ordered. Gowns will be retuned to Herff Jones at the Tacoma Dome after the graduation ceremony, June 9th. Please check out the YHS website for a Senior Check list and other information important to graduation.
