Watch for It! Version V1.16 October 2018
What Can You Do Now to Prepare? 1. Share this presentation handout with your IDT. Review all of the new and changed items with your IDT. 2. Download the NC (Comprehensive) Item Set. Review the MDS Change History document. 3. Review the new and changed items in Section GG. Make a plan for how to manage these items before October 1, Who/which department will manage data collection for each element in the time frame specified? How will you collect the data? What s your plan for collecting the data if therapy is not involved/not ordered?
And 4. Review your process for monthly drug regimen review. How is the physician notified of potentially clinically significant medication issues at present? Does he/she respond by midnight of the next calendar day? If not, how can you effect the needed change to be compliant? (Hint: include your Medical Director in this step.) 5. Watch for then download/purchase the RAI User s Manual for Version 1.16 that s your guidance for coding any/all of the MDS items. You won t be able to use your current RAI Manual on/after October 1, Does every member of the IDT that works with the MDS have access to the current copy of the RAI Manual? How will you ensure they have access to the v1.16 manual? Review the new and updated sections with your IDT to ensure they know the guidelines for coding.
Last But Not Least 6. Has your facility been educating residents and families about the new Medicare card initiative? Do they know to bring in the resident s new Medicare card when it arrives so the Business Office can make a copy of it for billing? What s the plan to communicate the MBI to the MDS Coordinator to ensure it s included in A0600B? 7. Have a pre-admission Coordinator or process? Be sure those folks (Tip: always have a back-up) are aware of the changes in Section GG for prior functioning & devices. Also Section J for prior surgery. They can assist the process for those MDS items by gathering the information on perspective residents.

Upcoming Webinar PDPM demystified: What you need to know Say goodbye to RUGs-IV and say hello to PDPM. The much-anticipated RCS-1 system is no longer on the horizon. Instead, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) published the Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM) in the FY 2019 SNF PPS Proposed Rule. The PDPM payment model for PPS SNF patients is proposed to be implemented in October With barely a year to prepare, providers are hungry for information about PDPM. Understanding this model now will help your facility prepare for the coming changes. As we move away from a payment model driven by therapy minutes to one based on patient characteristics, how will your facility continue to provide therapy in a fiscally responsible manner? How will you pay your therapy contractor when therapy minutes do not drive payment? We ll address these and many more questions in this informative training session. We expect to run out of space for this webinar, so register now! Speaker: Mark McDavid, OTR, RAC-CT, Owner, Seagrove Rehab Partners Thurs, July 12, 2:00 3:15pm CT (3:00 4:15pm ET) Thurs, July 19, 10:00-11:15am CT (11:00-12:15pm ET) Register at:
