To symbolize ancient voyages in our past, Volunteers will carry bottles of water from the beginning of the journey; with each brigade to follow to the foot of Canada s parliament. The brigades will be carried out in honour of Elder William Commanda and his vision for a Circle of all Nations, with the canoe as a symbol of how people, water, and nature combine and work together to animate peace, healing and understanding. The concept: 4 brigades, one from each corner of the four Directions; one from west, north, east, and one from south, each with Victoria Island (Anishinabek) in the Ottawa River at the foot of the parliament buildings as its final destination. The date of arrival: July 1, These organizers are seeking Volunteers to participate in this event. 4 Pikwakanagan Residents: Our Recycling Service is a privilege our community members receive free of charge and recycling is a strong part of our responsibility to protect Mother Earth from pollution for future generations. Our workers are dedicated to this community but cannot put themselves at risk standing for an excessive amount of time on the roadside sorting recycling. Sorting is a personal responsibility of each resident of Pikwakanagan. Recently the amount of garbage (non-recyclables) in recycling bins has been too high. Unfortunately our community does not have the resources to sort all the recycling while extending this opportunity for free curb side pickup. The recycling plant where our recycling is transferred to will begin charging us if the standards of recycling are not met, meaning less than 10% of garbage can be mixed in our recycling. To be able to continue offering this dedicated service free of charge to community members, community members need to begin properly recycling. Examples: WHAT NOT TO RECYCLE: -Plastic Bags -Disposable Cups -Plastic Wrap -Styrofoam -Tin Foil -Thin plastic WHAT TO RECYCLE: -Bottles (Plastic and Glass) -Jugs -Cans -Tubs -Lids -Jars If you need a sorting guide or have any questions please contact the Public Works Department at (613) Meegwetch!
