2 P A G E 2 Subspecialty Improvements: Now LIVE! Previously, Hem/Onc, Renal, and GI Ward services were unable to admit patients from 4-8pm on one of every four call days. The following changes have occurred in order to improve patient safety and quality of care. Subspecialty seniors will now admit and cross-cover for their primary team, as well as one additional subspecialty team when on call (4-8pm) every fourth day as detailed here. Check in with the Chiefs for any questions! NMT Restructuring The board has been updated! As of 6/30/17, Night Medicine Teams A/B/C will be active and admitting overnight. The division of cross-covering teams has changed as well, so keep an eye out!

3 P A G E 3 INTERNAL MEDICINE RESIDENT PICNIC Welcome the new interns! They are everywhere running the VA MICU, cross-covering at night, and taking long call like a boss! Prior to their official start date, they enjoyed the sunshine at our annual picnic! Welcome! Reminder: When To Call An Attending The following are absolute indications to call your attending (or the primary attending for the patient if you are cross-covering). These calls should occur immediately and not be delayed for anything other than patient care. #arms At the end of EVERY SINGLE DAY if the senior is off, the intern will be in contact with the attending If you are the cross-covering senior and you admit a patient to another subspecialty without an intern Change in status of a patient (i.e. floor -> MSD -> ICU) Code status change if not previously discussed Patient leaving AMA Death of a patient Anytime you have questions or concerns
