2 Workplace Health Promotion General Definition Workplace Health Promotion (WHP) is the combined efforts of employers, employees and society to improve the health and wellbeing of people at work This can be achieved through a combination of:.-improving the work organization and the working environment.-promoting active participation.-encouraging personal development Luxembourg Declaration of the European Network of Workplace Health Promotion (NWHP)-1997 (updated in June 2005 and January 2007)

55 Workplace Health Promotion La promoción de la salud en el trabajo y la protección de la salud de los trabajadores forman parte de la Salud Pública, y las Administraciones sanitarias las tienen como objetivo al planificar sus actividades. La Ley de cohesión y calidad del Sistema Nacional de Salud incluye en su artículo 11(2.g) [11] de Prestaciones de salud pública, la promoción y protección de la salud laboral, estableciendo en el apartado 3 del mismo artículo que las prestaciones de salud pública se ejercerán con un carácter de integralidad, a partir de las estructuras de salud pública de las Administraciones y de la infraestructura de atención primaria del Sistema Nacional de Salud.

56 Workplace Health Promotion WHP generally targets different topics and in practice is often closely related to risk assessment. Some workplace health promotion aspects are: Participation of employees in the process of improving work organisation Active involvement and consultation of employees in improving their work environment All measures aimed at enhancing wellbeing at work, for example enabling flexible working hours or working from home Raising the topic of healthy eating at work, giving information on healthy nutrition as well as offering healthy canteen food or facilities to prepare own food Tobacco awareness, including the offer of free participation in smoking cessation programmes as well as declaring a comprehensive smoking ban at the whole company site Mental health promotion, offering courses for managers on how to deal with stress and tension within their team, providing the opportunity for anonymous psychological consultancy for all employees Exercises and physical activity, offering sport courses, encouraging physical activity, promoting an active and healthy culture at work Health monitoring, offering checks such as blood pressure or cholesterol level.

Según el Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE) las bajas por enfermedades relacionadas con el estrés suponen una pérdida superior al 10% del PIB. Según el INE, el estrés laboral afecta en España a más del 40% de los trabajadores asalariados y a cerca del 50% de los empresarios.

58 Stress The current meta-analysis showed that WHPPs are more effective in populations containing predominantly whitecollar and younger individuals. WHPPs might be better tailored to these specifıc groups.

59 Difficulties (2) ECONOMIC CRISIS: Solo en España existen 6 millones de personas con depresión y las consultas por ansiedad y estrés van aumentando. Relacionado con ello, hay un dato que hace saltar las alarmas: en nuestro país, el consumo de antidepresivos se ha triplicado en los últimos diez años y, desde el comienzo de la crisis, su uso se ha incrementado un 10%.
