1 - 1 - Information regarding SRIRAM CHANDRA BHANJ MEDICAL COLLEGE & HOSPITAL, CUTTACK Name of the Institution : * * * * * The origin of the dispensary which the Cuttack general hospital replaced, is lost in antiquity. It is believed to have ex56isted since the days of Indian Rule in Orissa and was established primarily for the benefit of the pilgrims proceedings to Puri (otherwise called Jagannath). It was originally maintained from the proceeds of an endowment made by Marahatta Government. In 1874 it was raised to the status of a General Hospital, accommodation being provided for the treatment of sick European and European servants, of Government at Cuttack. The institution was principally supported by the Annachhatra Find and annual assignment made by the British Government. In 1925 the hospital was provincialised and since then it has been maintained by the provincial Government. The establishment of the present hospital was almost synchronous with the foundation of the Orissa Medical School during the Lieutenant Governorship of Sir Richard Temple and the commissionership of Mr. T.E. Ravenshaw, Since then the hospital is supplying clinical materials for the practical training of the medical students. The hospital is now named as the Sriram Chandra Bhanja Medical College Hospital, Cuttack vide G.O. No L.S.G. dateded Accommodation : With the gradual popularity of the Institution and growing needs of the people, the bed strength of the hospital was raised from time to time. The bed strength of the hospital was 215 in 1933, 227 in 1938, 246 in 1946, 335 in 1951, 535 in 1952, 747 in 1959, 756 in 1962, 892 in 1964, 954 in 1965, 1040 in 1966 and 1080 since May 68 and now 1107 (with 12 beds under post partum of Accidental service unit of 10 beds. 7 - 7 - KITCHEN An amount of Rs.50/- per general patient, Rs.60/- per T.B. patients and Rs.50/- per Paediatrics patients are sanctioned by the Govt. cooked food is being provided to the patients within this amount. OUT PATIENT DEPARTMENT The OPD (Out Patient Department) is situated in Main Gate (Mangalabag side) of SCB Medical College & Hospital. The statue of SRIRAM CHANDRA BHANJA DEO is infront of the Outdoor. General OPDs (except superspeciality Department), such as Medicine, Paediatric, Skin & VD, Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Clinical Immunology & Rheumatology, Hepatology, Immunization Clinic are functioning here. Pathological Laboratory is also functioning for carrying out routine haematologial and pathological examinations, such as Cytology Section of outdoor patients. The Superspeciality OPD is situated infront of Casualty, near Anatomy Department and Regional Spinal Injury Centre. BLOOD BANK SERVICES The Blood Bank is functioning 24 hours in First Floor of the Surgery Block facing to the Main Gate of the Hospital. Dr. B. N. Moharana is the incharge of Blood Bank. BIOMEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT The management of biomedical waste has been started in this hospital in year of The waste disposal equipments such as Microwave Shredder were procured under the central assistance and installed in the BMW treatment & disposal plant inside the premises. Subsequently an incinerator was also procured and installed in the same plant towards the disposal of the waste. As per the provision of the rules the BMW are segregated into color coded bins placed at various location of this hospital. The waste thus segregated are regularly lifted by an engaged outsourcing agent to the treatment & disposal plant for their necessary disposal. The sharp waste such as, hypodermic needles are destroyed by the NST supplied to the various generation points of the same. For sensitization & awareness of the hospital workers (Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics & Safai Karmachari) regular training programs are conducted. Visualates such as pictorial posters, depicting the method of segregation as well as the treatment & disposals are displayed at the various waste generation points to ensure correct segregation of the waste. The ETP is under construction by the PHD Dept. to treat the waste water effluent. The employees of this hospital have been fully committed to give the complete implementation of Bio Medical Waste Management in the prescribed norms. However the system is a process of gradual refinement which has taken fully cognizance in the habit and practice of this hospital. 14 Outsourced Services The laundry Service is outsourced by M/S Mediaid Marketing Bhubaneswar (Laundry Services)on at Rs 6 per one linens The Agency is responsible for collection of dirty lines from different departments 7 cleaning of line & distributions to respective department. Cleaning & sanitations The cleaning & Sanitation is outsourced by the M/S Paritosh Service Agency from at Rs 9.50 per square foot for 24 hours. The functioning of the outsourced agencies is being supervised by the Hospital authority and the payment is made on the basis of recommendations of the respective department & HODs of the concerned department. Biomedical waste Management The Biomedical Waste Management and Handling is outsourced to M/S Mediaid 4.70 per bed per day on BIOMEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT The management of Biomedical Waste has been started in this Hospital in year of The Waste disposal equipments such as Microwave shredder were produced under the central assistance and installed in the BMW treatment & disposal plant inside the premises. The rate fixed is Rs4.70 per bed day to the outsourcing agent and the total bill amount is Rs per month for present bed strength of The Wastes is transported in covered rickshaws to the treatment & disposal plant for further disposal. The sharp Waste such as, hypodermic needles are destroyed by the Needle syringe Terminator supplied to the various generation points of the same. For sensitization & Awareness of the Hospital workers (Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics & Safal Karmachari) regular training programs are conducted. Visual aids such as pictorial posters, depicting the method of segregation as well as the treatment & disposals are displayed at the various Waste generation points to ensure correct segregation of the Waste. The Senior Hospital Administrator, the Hospital Manager accompanied by senior Nursing Supervisors visits the ward regularly and monitors the correct disposal of the Wastes.
