REMINDER: Do Not Send Course Evaluations to AHA As a general rule, AHA Course Evaluations, once completed, should be sent to the TCC or given to the Instructor. They should not be mailed to AHA National Center unless there is a significant problem with the course. Sending an evaluation to AHA National Center is the last resort to resolving issues with the course. ALERT: New Course Evaluations New Course Evaluations have been posted to the AHA Instructor Network. The newest versions are almost identical to the previous versions; however, they clarify that evaluations should be provided to the TCC or Instructor, not submitted to AHA National Center. Please delete previous versions of the evaluations and use the newest versions. Course Evaluations are located in the Courses section (under the respective course name) in the Course Resources tab. 4 6/23/12 Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care, this classroom, video-based, Instructor-led course helps healthcare providers develop the knowledge and skills needed for emergency evaluation and treatment of seriously ill infants and children. PEARS teaches students how to recognize respiratory distress, shock and cardiac arrest, and provide appropriate lifesaving interventions within the initial minutes of response until the child is transferred to an advanced life support provider. It also emphasizes the resuscitation team concept. The goal of the PEARS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes. Students who successfully complete the PEARS Course will receive a PEARS Provider course completion card and are eligible to receive continuing education credits. PEARS is for healthcare providers such as emergency medical technicians (EMTs), medical and surgical nurses, school nurses and any other healthcare provider who infrequently sees critically ill infants and children. Epub 2011 Sep 29. Abstract Resuscitation system errors are associated with decreased survival from in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) in adults. The most frequent system errors were related to delays in medication, defibrillation and airway management, and chest compression performance errors. Hospitals should emphasize the importance of early medication, defibrillation and airway management, and compliance with AHA ACLS protocols in resuscitation training for staff. Because there is no single database with detailed IHCA incidence information, the annual U.S. event rate of treated IHCAs was estimated by using three methods: GWTG-R data and U.S. annual hospital bed days, Regression model based on hospital factors and GWTG-R IHCA rates, Weighted averages for select covariates. As the incidence of IHCA may be increasing, strategies should be developed to address this major healthcare system problem and improve care for in-hospital patients. Abstract In-hospital cardiac arrests that are witnessed or monitored lead to a higher rate of survival to hospital discharge than those that are neither witnessed nor monitored. Witnessed or monitored cardiac arrests were more likely to achieve favorable neurologic status at hospital discharge. There was no significant long-term survival improvement with monitoring compared to direct observation, but monitored-only patients had a higher 24-hour survival rate than witnessed-only patients.
