Thurs. 6-9 p.m.; Sat. 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Nursing assistants work under the supervision of a licensed practical nurse (LPN) or registered nurse (RN) to assist patients with personal care, mobility, nutrition, hydration, maintaining a safe environment, and collecting basic patient data. They are employed by outpatient clinics, hospitals, and long-term care facilities. Students are responsible for the cost of drug screening, medical exams, and immunizations. Upon successful completion of this course, you will earn the 90 hours of Introduction to Health Care and 75 hours of Nursing Assistant. If you choose to pursue Phlebotomy (75 hours) or Home Health Aide (75 hours) next, you will not need to repeat the 90-hour Introduction to Health Care portion of the program. This course is recognized by the Florida Board of Nursing and complies with all requirements regarding the LPN performance procedures for intravenous therapy. *Course prerequisite: Must be a licensed practical nurse (LPN) or a recent practical nurse graduate. Students will participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations, skills practice, and skills testing. Students are required to complete and pass written exam. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an with a digital American Heart Association Course Completion Card attached. This card is valid for two years. Immediate care for a victim can potentially reduce the damage caused by an injury until advanced medical personnel arrive and are able to take over. Our course provides general education in basic first aid techniques. You'll learn how to treat injuries such as: cuts, burns, broken bones, choking, heart attacks, strokes, bee stings, and anaphylactic shock. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will electronically receive an American Heart Association Course Completion Card valid for two years. To register, call Emergency Vehicle Operators Course - $130 Highlands Public Safety Building TBA This 16-hour course instructs participants on how to properly operate an emergency vehicle, specifically an ambulance. This training meets or exceeds the State of Florida (FAC 64J-1.013) requirements for operation of an emergency vehicle. This course includes both classroom and practical application activities. Successful completion requires passing a written and practical driving examination. Participants must have a valid State of Florida drivers license and be at least 18 years old to participate. Emergency Medical Technician Refresher - $125 This 30-hour course meets or exceeds the State of Florida, FAC 64J requirements for renewal of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification. Instruction includes classroom and skills verification required by the 1994 US DOT EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum. Upon completion of this course, the participant will receive a certificate of completion for verification of training. For information related to dates/times this course is offered, contact Dolores Breedlove at breedloved@southflorida.edu or OSHA - Occupational Safety and Health Administration Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-Hour General Industry - $159 Highlands P Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, 2018 R 1-6 p.m. Hardee B Nov. 1 and 8, 2018 R 1-6 p.m. DeSoto A Feb. 14 and 21, 2019 R 1-6 p.m. The OSHA outreach training program for general industry provides instruction for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in the workplaces in general industry. The program also provides information regarding workers rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint. Through this training, OSHA helps to ensure that workers are more knowledgeable about workplace hazards and their rights, and contribute to our nation s productivity.
