2 Performance In month 11, the Trust was green in all performance indicators except A&E Average of 178 type 1 attendances per day Continue to see an increase in numbers of care of the elderly attendances with additional activity seen in both the over 65 and over 80 age group. Increase in LAS blue light activity by 53%.

3 A&E challenges Significant pressures with A&E activity March - 9.3% increase of A&E Type 1 attendances compared to same time last year Trust saw significant pressures over the Easter bank holiday weekend Many staff worked over and above normal shifts to cope with the increase in activity. Over bank holiday weekend, saw 911 attendances to A&E Staff worked extremely hard to ensure our services ran as smoothly as possible and that patients continued to be given the best care

4 Junior Doctors strike Next junior doctors' industrial action planned to take place between 8am and 5pm on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 April. Two days of strike action even more challenging as first to action a full withdrawal of labour including emergency cover GP s and public are being urged to think twice before using A&E Utilising Ward Liaison Officers (WLOs) to help over the two days to assist with patient journeys through the hospital

5 Maternity Review Maternity services in North West London underwent significant change in July 2015, including the closure of Ealing Hospital s maternity unit and development of community services. Essential to: Respond to the increasing number of women with complex health needs during pregnancy Provide consistent high-quality maternity care by concentrating staff, expertise and resources in fewer centres Increase the number of midwives and the hours of senior consultant cover.

6 Maternity Review Review into changes found: Changes have been made safely and patients are now seeing improvements to their care Improvements to the midwife to birth ratio across NW London to meet national standards All six maternity units have increased hours of senior consultant cover, 100 new midwives have been recruited to NW London as a result of these changes

7 Charity Trust appointed its first every Charity Director - Andrew Bickerdike Overall aim to increase awareness of the charity and the income it attracts to the Trust. Raise much needed funding to support improvements for patients and staff across our two hospitals and improved health and care for the communities we serve. Trust already receives donations from supporters including former patients, family members, and members of the community.

8 Royal Visit Nuclear Medicine Facility officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal SPECT CT provides improved service for patients during their treatment. Can speed up diagnosis and means they need to attend fewer appointments. Particularly beneficial for unwell and frail patients whose stress and anxiety at attending multiple hospital appointments can be greatly reduced. Her Royal Highness unveiled a plaque marking the official opening of the centre and signed a guest book.

9 Staff survey results Did particularly well in staff engagement with score of 3.86 out of 5 An increase on our 2014 score of 3.82 Above the national average of Scored above average in 18 areas. Top five ranking scores for Trust: Staff motivation at work Staff witnessing potentially harmful errors, near misses or incidents Quality of appraisals Staff appraised in the last 12 months Staff suffering work related stress in last 12 months. Three areas in which improvement needed include experiencing physical violence from staff in the last 12 months and experiencing discrimination at work in the last 12 months.

10 Staff awards Trust celebrated achievements of staff at awards ceremony. More than 200 nominations were received and members of the public were also invited to nominate in the Compassionate Care category. Winner of Compassionate Care award was Denise Ahmed for exceptional kindness and understanding to parents who had sadly lost their daughter. Described as an amazing lady and a credit to her profession

11 Achieving results Four Trust staff awarded the Connecticut Cup, by Rotary International for recognition of outstanding international work. Trust s ICT department shortlisted as a finalist for the HSJ Value in Healthcare Awards, in recognition of continued effort and improvement. Staff from Beaconsfield East have been awarded with foundation certificates in dementia awareness by the Alzheimer s Society
