Preventing illegal working to ensure patient safety The intention of the Trust is to ensure that the required pre-employment checks are made in accordance with legislation and best practice. NHS regulations require that any member of staff working unsupervised with vulnerable adults or children must be CRB checked. As an organisation using the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Disclosure Service to assess applicants suitability for positions of trust, the Trust will endeavor to comply fully with the CRB Code of Practice and undertakes to treat all applicants for positions fairly. It undertakes not to discriminate unfairly against any subject of a Disclosure on the basis of conviction or other information revealed. The Criminal Records Bureau has two specific types of Disclosure Enhanced and Standard. The Trust uses the Standard levels of Disclosure for those that don t work with children or vulnerable adults and Enhanced disclosure for those that do work with children and vulnerable adults. 4 Initiatives - Working with Jobcentre Plus and partners G A T E way to Salford Royal The Trust Jobs Shop held since 2003 has changed to support the local community and developed into an event to provide Guidance, Advice, Training and Employment information. It is now held bi monthly on the last Friday in January, March, May, July, September and November from 10am to 2pm in the Mayo Building which is on the Trust site on Stott Lane. Vacancies within the Trust are promoted and job seekers can apply for advertised posts on the day. Advice is provided to those completing application forms to ensure customers have the best possible outcome. We now have support from our construction partners Balfour Beatty, Salford City College, and Skills for Health. In addition we have visiting organizations such as Salford City Council and other Trusts in the region promoting vacancies. Jobcentre Plus advisors attend and provide advice to customers in relation to benefits and getting back to work and are also able to explain training opportunities available locally Work Preparation Programme Work preparation allows Jobcentre plus customers with a disability and/or health condition to gain valuable in work experience whilst remaining on their benefits by undertaking a 6 week work placement which enables them to:- 1. assess the impact of work on their disability/health condition, 2. try a new career direction because of the limitations imposed by a disability and / or health condition 3. build and develop in work behaviours and skills to further their job search 4. obtain a reference and current entry for their CV. These include the opportunity to conduct a major research project leading to an MD, funding and protected study leave to complete an MSc in Emergency Medicine, extended training in Paediatrics. These overseas fellowships will be recognised for training by the College of Emergency Medicine. There is protected research time to allow the development of special interests and an individual mentoring system to help the individual achieve their maximum potential. 16 MEDICAL & DENTAL VACANCIES (E-RECRUITMENT) JOB TITLE: NEUROSURGICAL SPINAL FELLOW LOCATION: Department of Neurosurgery GRADE: SpR Level HOURS: 40 JOB REF: 236-MD CLOSING DATE: 2 nd May 2010 INTERVIEW DATE: 12 th May month post commencing 1 st November 2010 The neurosurgical unit at the Salford Royal Foundation Trust (SRFT; formerly Hope Hospital) is one of the largest in the country, performing over 3000 operations per year. You would gain experience in all aspects of Complex Spinal practice in a unit that undertakes in excess of 1100 open spinal procedures per year for trauma, tumour and degenerative disease in adults and in children. Areas of specialist interest include minimally invasive approaches, cranio-cervical junction pathology and motion preserving technology. In addition to the clinical role, it is expected that the successful candidate would also become involved in research, and contribute to ongoing clinical trials, with a view to publication and presentation at national and international meetings. It is also planned that the Spinal fellow will have the opportunity to attend national and international spine courses and travel to other units to further his/her experience. The post is designed for senior neurosurgical trainees, who intend to pursue a subspecialty interest in Complex Spinal surgery at consultant neurosurgical level, or the equivalent for international applicants. For UK Trainees the post is currently not recognized by the SAC as a specialist training post, although recognition could be retrospectively applied for with the neurosurgical SAC on a named applicant basis for the successful appointee. In recent years, there has been considerable urban regeneration and numerous initiatives to improve public health. The City Council and the PCT are working together to develop integrated children s services and implement the NSF for children. These posts have been created to further develop the Consultant team, which currently delivers acute and scheduled secondary paediatric care in Salford. Unscheduled care is delivered on the PANDA unit at Salford Royal Hospital, whilst scheduled care (outpatients) is provided in the community in purpose built children s centres. The PANDA unit is a novel paediatric short stay assessment and observation unit allowing for stays of up to 24 hours, supported by a well developed community paediatric nursing team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly and dynamic team at a university teaching hospital. The appointees will make up a team of 6 paediatricians and 1 paediatric nurse consultant. In addition to the latter there are 8 wte emergency medicine consultants. There is regular contact with Salford PCT s 3.5wte consultants in community child health, who share the general outpatient service with hospital colleagues. In conjunction with the present paediatric specialists the appointee will develop and deliver an ambulatory service and share in the development of the PANDA unit and also hold regular general outpatient clinics. Applicants must have full GMC registration and should have undergone appropriate training leading to accreditation, being on/or eligible for inclusion on the GMC s Specialist Register.
