2 Overview of the The Lurleen B. Wallace College of Nursing at Jacksonville State University is one of the few memorial colleges of nursing in the United States. It was created in 1967 by the Legislature of Alabama as a memorial to Governor Lurleen B. Wallace. Jacksonville State University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Both the baccalaureate and master s programs of the Lurleen B. Wallace College of Nursing are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education through In the Summer of 2016, the College of Nursing was renamed the and along with the newly approved Respiratory Therapy program and the Department of Kinesiology, the three departments form the new School of Health Professions and Wellness. Vision Statement Empowering exemplary nurses to care for anyone, anytime, anywhere. Purpose of the Run for Your Life 5k The has 700+ students (in traditional and online programs). All proceeds from this 5k are used towards funding scholarships for deserving students. The cost of the Nursing program is typically more than other programs due to the supplies for nursing arts lab, clinical labs, technology and testing materials. Our goal is to raise enough money to be able to offer at least 10 scholarships to students annually. In order to achieve our goal, we stand in need of sponsors who will stand with the to establish a successful 5k. History of the Run for Your Life 5k On April 11, 2015, the College of Nursing held its first annual CON RUN/WALK for your Life 5k with over 350 registered for the 5k! Over $6,000 was raised for nursing scholarships at the inaugural 5k. On April 9, 2016, the addition of a 1mile fun run was added and another 350+ ranging in age from 4-79, participated in this event. The JSU Cocky Nursing RUN/WALK for your life is now the second largest 5k in the area (second only to Woodstock 5k, the RRCA Southern Region Championship Race). Over $8,000 was raised and distributed to nursing students. April 8, 2017, the addition of chip timing, inclusion in the Anniston Runner s Club Grand Prix Schedule, and a newly certified course resulted in another successful 5k resulted in raising over $11,000 in funds for nursing scholarships.
