Renner, MA, RT (R) Clinical Associate Professor Director, Division of Radiologic Science, UNC The knowledge and skills radiologic technologists utilize to keep a patient safe must be taught and practiced in such a manner that patient safety is seen as the number one priority. A high level of responsibility and accountability must be internalized such that the environment or situation do not dictate action but rather patient care standards determine actions. Adherence to established guidelines for practice means every patient receives safe care. When a breach in guidelines occurs, the healthcare providers and clinical setting administrators evaluate the breach for causation and then prevention of similar unacceptable practice.

Jordan B. Renner, M.D., F.A.C.R. Professor of Radiology and Allied Health Sciences, UNC The fundamental goal of radiology is to provide timely, accurate and diagnostic imaging studies and procedures and to do so in such a manner that patient safety is always the foremost consideration. Image quality matters, and, regardless of the modality or technology under discussion, incomplete or inadequate imaging hinders the ability to provide timely and accurate diagnoses. Patients physical well-being can be endangered by procedures and positioning performed carelessly, and consequences can be severe. This presentation will illustrate the importance of procedure and image quality, particularly in musculoskeletal imaging and will stress instances in which less than ideal imaging studies compromise the diagnostic quality of the study. Winston, North and South Rooms 3:00 pm to 3:50 pm Stroke - Clinical and Imaging Manifestations Bart Pierce, B.S., R.T.(R)(MR), FASRT, Voxel MR Resources, LLC This session begins by discussing the morbidity and mortality of stroke.
