1 Funding excellence. Uniting care. Second Annual Retreat Program Friday, September 16, 2016 Centre Mont-Royal 2200 Mansfield Street Montreal

2 2 Message from the Executive Committee of the Rossy Cancer Network It gives us great pleasure to welcome you to the second annual retreat of the Rossy Cancer Network (RCN). This event brings together clinicians, researchers and allied health professionals involved in cancer care in the McGill University-affiliated hospitals the McGill University Health Centre, the Jewish General Hospital and St. Mary s Hospital Center. As we look back at the work that has been undertaken in the past year, we are proud to say that cancer care in the RCN hospitals has never been as collaborative and unified. The Disease Site Program, the cornerstone of the RCN, now has seven Disease Site Teams with a representative membership of over 100 multi-disciplinary health care professionals, working together to streamline care in each of their respective disease sites (lung cancer, breast cancer, etc..). Thanks to their collaboration, a reinvigorated clinical trials program is now in place allowing patients to access leading-edge treatments across the network, regardless of their treating hospital. In addition to numerous patient experience initiatives undertaken by the RCN team with hospital collaborators, there are two years worth of Cancer Quality & Innovation (CQI) Education and Research Grants underway, with over 20 active projects. These involve 110 health professionals, including physicians, nurses, dietitians, psychosocial oncologists and rehabilitation professionals addressing quality across the continuum of care. With this foundation in place, we are proud to present the new RCN Operational Plan, which outlines our shared strategic priorities for the next five years (see page 4). We are poised to capitalize on our current momentum to ensure that patients receive timely access to high-quality care, and that they are supported and included in the planning of their care. Finally, we want to express our appreciation for taking time out of your busy schedules to attend the retreat. It is our firm belief that, thanks to your collaboration and insights, we can demonstrate what a unified centre of excellence in cancer care can achieve. Sincerest thanks, Dr. Armen Aprikian Dr. Gerald Batist Dr. Samuel Benaroya Dr. Eduardo Franco Dr. Adrian Langleben Dr. Ari Meguerditchian Dr. Wilson H. 3 RCN Strategic Direction Statement RCN Strategic Priorities A world-class cancer network provides the highest standard of care and the best possible cancer experience to its patients. It is a magnet for excellent health care professionals, a leader in research and education, and strives to continually improve its cancer services. The VISION of the Rossy Cancer Network (RCN) is to become a world-class comprehensive cancer network with outcomes in cancer survival, mortality, and patient satisfaction as good as or better than those of the leading international comprehensive cancer centres. Our MISSION is to improve the quality of cancer care received by the population served by the McGill Academic Health Network. We will achieve this through a multi-faceted approach and strong inter-organizational governance among the RCN s member organizations McGill University Health Centre, Jewish General Hospital and St. Mary s Health Center with optimal use of resources available at these institutions and the trust and willingness to achieve shared strategic goals. Five strategic priorities ( Experience, Evidence-Based,, Leading-Edge Treatments, Research & Education) will anchor our decision making and provide a blueprint for focused initiatives that aim to achieve the following shared goals: Outstanding patient support with measured improvement in patient engagement and experiences. A common scorecard with accountability and transparency driving continuous evidence-based quality improvements in patient care. Improved access and reduced wait times for diagnostic, treatment and supportive services along the cancer care continuum. Earlier access to breakthrough treatments for patients. Measured improvements in care and scholarly output, through research and education. Experience Evidence- Based Leading-Edge Treatments Research & Education Outstanding patient support with measured improvement in patient engagement and experiences. Continuous improvements in patient care supported by a common scorecard. Improved access and reduced wait times for diagnostic, treatment and supportive services along the cancer care continuum. Earlier access to breakthrough treatments for patients. Research and education generating measured improvements in care and scholarly output. The Disease Site groups will provide strong clinical leadership structures and will work together, across institutions in a collaborative and integrative fashion, to continuously improve patient care. They will be advocates for a culture of rigorous self-evaluation, tracking outcomes and indicators, and global benchmarking of performance. Finally, they will ensure that patients have access to the latest scientific knowledge and innovations to obtain the most effective treatments. Experience 2016 Rossy Cancer Network Strategic Priorities Evidence- Based Leading-Edge Treatments Research & Education Targeted quality improvements will be supported by all inter-hospital governance, including the oncology leads, quality improvement managers, and the director generals of the hospitals who will remove barriers when needed. We will continue to empower front-line oncology professionals to develop new knowledge on cancer care quality and enhance their skills in fields pertinent to cancer care quality. Finally, since we have aligned some of our strategic priorities with those of the Health Ministry of Quebec and the Direction générale de cancérologie, we will work collaboratively to address major issues in cancer care quality and to support performance improvements through investment in IT platforms within the Rossy Cancer Network. By working together and being purposeful about implementing this strategic vision, we will better address patients needs across the continuum of cancer care and serve as a transformative resource and model for cancer control efforts in Quebec and in Canada. When framed by this strategic vision, the critical choices we make will allow us to make great strides to achieving world-class cancer care.
