COURSE PREREQUISITE (S): Admission into the Fire Science Program RATIONALE: This course is designed for the entire fire service or the student that would like to enter the career field. FIST 2040 (Prinicples of Fire and Emergency Services Safety & Survival) focuses heavily on the 16 life safety initiatives. This course also examines the factors that shape fire risk management and mitigation as it pertains to emergency services. 5 COURSE REQUIREMENTS/EVALUATION: (Page 5 of 6) COURSE OBJECTIVES/ASSESSMENT MEASURES COURSE OBJECTIVES 1. Define and describe the need for cultural and behavioral change within the emergency services relating to safety, incorporating leadership, supervision, accountability and personal responsibility. Explain the need for enhancements of personal and organizational accountability for health and safety. ASSESSMENT MEASURES 1. score 2. Define how the concepts of risk management affect strategic and tactical decision-making. Describe and evaluate circumstances that might constitute an unsafe act and explain the concept of empowering all emergency services personnel to stop unsafe acts. Validate the need for national training standards as they correlate to professional development inclusive of qualifications, certifications and recertifications. 2. score 3.
