1 THIS & THAT DITJIES DATJIES Jun 2016 From... Marius & Ellen Our grateful thanks to our editors and colleagues for all the hard work you put into keep us informed about all the Rynpark news. Ellen and I will endeavour to give you feedback, at least every quarter, concerning some of the important matters that have been discussed at Board meetings as well as other matters of concern. Please diarize the Annual General Meeting on 23 June 2016 at 15:00 The Board members met on 25 February, 31 March, and 28 April 2016 and we are currently planning the next meeting for 26 May 2016 A first for the Board of Rynpark is the process of evaluating the activities of the Board itself and so doing, to measure their effectiveness. May the activities of the Board be a blessing to our residents. The Board revised various policy documents which were discussed with senior personnel. This process will be ongoing. The tasks of the following committees have been discussed in detail: Financial; Health and Welfare; Property and Maintenance; Security and Gardens and The Parks Representatives Report. 2 From... Marius & Ellen continued The Chairman and delegated members held regular evaluation discussions with the Executive Manager during this period. Thank you for your support, guidance and positive input. The Rynpark Worker(s) of the month was launched in this period. Thank you for this initiative which gives recognition to those who work diligently. One matter was referred to the CCMA. Dirk Ackerman supported Rynpark management in resolving this matter. The Rynpark waiting list for 2 bedroomed units has been closed since 31 January The Board will reconsider the matter in January 2017 CMS has been hard at word during the past months, making the emergency service more reliable. Management is also doing random tests to ensure ongoing reliability. The Board has decided to provide solar lighting at all the gates. We hope that this will make our residents feel more secure and also assist the security staff in their work. Two boreholes are being tested as management is looking into the matter of water security in times of need. We will keep you informed. The maintenance team deserve a compliment for all the job cards they completed during the past 3 months. Thank you all for your outstanding contribution to the success of Rynpark. The gutters will also be kept clean by this team. As from 1 June you need only place your rubbish bags outside by 08:00 management really wishes to heed the requests of our residents. We hope you can then stay in bed for an extra half hour during the cold Highveld winter mornings. Enjoy! The management team wishes to welcome our new residents. 3 Merk asseblief u kalender vir die Algemene Jaarvergadering op 23 Junie Die lede van die Bestuursraad het op 25 Februarie, 31 Maart en 8 April vergader. Ten tye van ons skrywe is ons besig om te beplan vir die vergadering van 26 Mei n Eerste vir die Bestuursraad van Rynpark is die proses van evaluasie om die werksaamhede van die Raad self te toets en om sodoende effektiwiteit van werksaamhede te meet. Baie geluk en seën op die werksaamhede van die Raad word vir u toegebid. Die Raad het verskeie beleids-dokumente nagegaan en dit met senior personeel hersien. Hierdie proses sal ook verdere aandag geniet. Komitee werksaamhede is volledig bespreek dit sluit die volgende komitees is: Finansiële Komitee; Gesondheidsorg/Welsynskomitee; Eiendom en Instandhoudingskomitee; Sekuriteit en Tuine komitee; Parke Verteenwoordigerskomitee verslag Die Voorsitter en afgevaardigde raadslid het gereelde evaluerings gesprekke met die nuwe Uitvoerende Bestuurder gedurende hierdie termyn gevoer. Dankie vir u ondersteuning, begeleiding en positiewe terugvoer. Die Rynpark Werker(s) van die Maand is in hierdie tyd geloots dankie vir hierdie inisiatief om erkenning te gee aan ons personeel wat met oorgawe dien. Een saak het voor die Kommissie vir Bemiddeling, Versoening en Arbitrasie (CCMA) gedien Dirk Ackermann het Rynpark Bestuur hiermee bygestaan en die saak is voor verhoor geskik. Die Rynpark waglys vir twee (2) slaapkamer eenhede is sedert 31 Januarie 2016 gesluit as gevolg van die hoeveelheid name op hierdie lys. Die Bestuursraad sal gedurende Januarie 2017 dit weer hersien. CMS het gedurende die afgelope paar maande hard gewerk om die nooddiens meer betroubaar te maak. Bestuur is ook besig om steekproewe te doen om die betroubaarheid deurlopend te monitor. Die Raad het n besluit geneem om solar ligte by al die hekke aan te bring. Hoop dit gee meer gemoedsrus vir ons inwoners en sal dit ook dien as veiligheids maatreël om ons hekwagte te ondersteun in hulle werk. Twee boorgate word getoets en die bestuurspan is ook besig met ondersoeke na water beveiliging ten tye van nood. Ons sal u ook hiervan verder op hoogte hou. Die instandhouding span verdien n pluimpie vir die hoeveelheid werkskaarte die afgelope drie maande voltooi. Dankie aan elkeen vir julle

Vanaf 1 Junie 2016 kan u die vullissakke eers teen 08:00 buite plaas bestuur wil graag ook gehoor gee aan die versoeke van ons inwoners. Hoop u kan dan n ekstra halfuur langer in die bed bly gedurende die koue Hoëveld winteroggende. Geniet! Die bestuurspan wil graag al ons nuwe inwoners verwelkom. 5 Rynpark Celebrates Nurse s Day Nurse s Day is widely celebrated on the 12th of May and it was no different at Rynpark 1 as the nurses were acknowledged by management. They were also given the opportunity to recite the Nurse s Pledge while holding lit candles. Each nurse was also presented with small gifts as tokens of appreciation for their help and care. The date coincides with the birthday of Florence Nightingale - the nurse who gained acclaim for her unselfish and dedicated service during the Crimean War. Born in Italy, Florence was named after the town of her birth. At the age of 16 she decided to enter the world of nursing against the wishes of her parents who believed themselves to be of better standing. Despite this, Florence decided to move to Germany to study her chosen profession. Upon completion of her studies Florence moved to London where she became a hospital superintendent. By this time her reputation had grown and after the outbreak of the Crimean War she was asked if she would consider providing her services to the injured soldiers In the Crimea, Florence worked under the worst conditions imaginable, yet was able to reduce the mortality rate by two thirds. This history was shared with the nurses of Rynpark 1.

6 Tooi Turquoise vir Bejaardes Hierdie projek het reeds op 15 Mei afgeskop, en Rynpark gaan Turquoise! Ons het heerlike musiek vermaak geniet, sopdae by Toeka, hand- en voet versorgings deur Camelot, en n ete in die Dinglersaal! En dis nie die einde nie. Tot 15 Junie is daar n program wat skrik vir niks. Ons begin weer met ons Boeresportdag! Dan word daar onder andere piekniek gehou; boerewors gebraai; n vasvra olimpiade; n fliek aand sowaar met popcorn en spookasem; put-put kaskenades; nog bederf behandelings, en n visvang uitstappie vir die manne?? Verwys gerus na die kalender in die nuusbrief vir besonderhede Go Turquoise 4 the Elderly The purpose of this National project is to create awareness of the needs of the elderly. It runs from 15 May to 15 June, which is the World Elderly Abuse Awareness Day. Lots of exciting events have been planned by our Matrons. Refer to the Calender in our Newsletter for more detail. 7 Wheelchair Project The Assisted Living Fundraising Committee handed over three brand new wheelchairs to Rynpark at the end of April. Present to accept them were Sister Collette (Matron Frail Care 4 & 6), Marius Botha (Executive Manager) and Andries van Zyl (Assistant Manager). The other two wheelchairs have been allocated to persons outside Rynpark who are in dire need of a wheelchair. A special word of thanks was extended to Farrarmere Primary School, St. Columbus, Little Learners and last, but not least, all the residents and their families who collect the screw-on bottle caps and bread tags. On behalf of the Committee, I would like to thank committee members, Sandra Jakobi and Libby Heiden who, spend many hours picking up, sorting and delivering boxes and boxes of bottle tops and bread tags. 10 A Magical Musical RP7 The Clubhouse at RP7 was a buzz of excitement and activity on Saturday 7 May, where 65 ladies were treated to the most wonderful morning tea in honour of Mothers Day. The room was transformed. Each table was decorated in a different colour with hats, fans, jewels and all manner of special little artistic touches. The most amazing of these was a peppermint sweet, with a little face drawn on it, and wearing a tiny paper hat in the colour of its table. Marlene Bezuidenhout entertained the guests with her beautiful voice, taking them on a musical tour of the world. She sang in Afrikaans, German, French, Italian and English and most of the songs were well-known to everyone. It was a lovely event, and thanks are due to the ladies of the Entertainment Committee who put so much work into it - as they always do! Now we drive on what s left of the road. Did you know?? The important role that the Clinic Sisters play in our wellbeing? There are 880 residents in Rynpark. Beween the 3 sisters, they attended to 580 residents during April. They did 321 home visits, made 8 referrals to doctors and arranged for 29 prescriptions. What a great job they do! 12 Angela Cerati cooks up a storm I heard the talk amongst residents remarks about new and different things appearing on the menu and this led me to our newly appointed Catering Manager, Angela Cerati. After spending some time with her, I truly think her name suits her well she is an Angel! Angela was born in South Africa, but grew up in Italy until she got married. She returned to South Africa in She spent her career serving people. 5 yrs catering for Hospitals; schools for 12 yrs; 8 yrs with Telkom Training Centre; and the last 28 yrs with Fedics who appointed her at Rynpark in April this year. What can we expect from the kitchen? Well, Angela believes in small steps bringing in changes slowly to see how they are received like the cous cous, pumpkin fritters and melkkos being introduced. Her aim is to make the meals interesting and tasty, with some suprises in between. Yummee, I can t wait. Leane Greyling is the Assistant Catering Manager, and they work together as a tight unit, both sharing a love for people, and the drive for customer service. Good news is that the special Sunday lunches on the last Sunday of the month will continue. The venue? Well, be sure to check, as there may be changes. You are welcome to book at the coffee shop (x7009) or with Sonja at reception (x7000). We wish them well, and look forward to discovering the exciting dishes they have in the pipeline. Die nuwe Assistent bestuurder, Leane Greyling het kort op haar hakke gevolg, en hulle maak saam n gedugte span. Hulle beoog om ons spyskaart interressant en opwindend te maak deur geleidelik nuwe en smaaklike - disse aan te bied, (ek het beslis n bietjie knoffel geruik, en lekker vars pietersiele gesien.) Na my onlangse gesprek met hulle is dit duidelik dat hulle n hart vir mense het, en dat diens n prioriteit is. Ons sien uit na baie lekker eet dae. Welkom julle!

14 Your garden in June Visit nurseries to hunt for bargains and winter cheer. We went to Super Seedlings in May where we were treated to tea and cake in their newly established tea garden. Afterwards we received tips on what plants to group together, where to plant and colour schemes. We learnt about heirloom vegetables, the ones our parents and grandparents used to plant. Did you know some carrots used to be round and beans purple before they, like so many things, were genetically modified or hybridized? Last year Quinton Bean from The Aloe Farm came to Rynpark to speak to us. What about going to Hartebeespoort Dam for the day and enjoy their Winter Aloe Festival? Or visit CND Nursery where you can see the aloes as well and then go to Super Seedlings, both nurseries are situated close together in Linbro Park, Sandton. Happy gardening!
