5 Adult Nursing Education Programs Practical Nursing Diploma Program Our Practical Nursing Diploma Program is approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Our graduates are highly regarded in the community and sought after for jobs in a variety of healthcare settings. Graduates of the Program are prepared to complete the National Council Licensing Exam PN (NCLEX-PN) and become a Licensed Practical Nurse in Pennsylvania. The program is a full time daytime program taking an academic year to complete. This program consists of 1540 hours of intensive instruction. The program requires classroom, lab and clinical instructional experiences. Typically classes are admitted twice a year, in January and July. Financial Aid is available to those who qualify; this program is approved by PA CareerLink and the Veterans Administration. Our program will prepare you to perform patient/resident care under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Our program is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Successful completion of this course prepares you to take the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Competency Exam and enroll in the NA registry for Pennsylvania. The program is a short term certificate program consisting of 120 hours of intensive classroom, lab and clinical instruction. 6 Practical Nursing YCST #900 Upon completion of the Practical Nursing Program at the York County School of Technology s Adult & Continuing Education Center, students will be prepared to demonstrate basic knowledge, skills and abilities of a practical nurse. They will function within the legal scope of practice and the standards of nursing conduct related to practical nursing. Students completing the program will be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-PN Exam. 7 Nurse Aide Certificate Program Overview YCST #507 will learn the basic knowledge, skills, and abilities of a nurse aide. Students will be prepared as a member of the healthcare team to assist residents in a long-term care nursing facility. You will function under the direction of the License Practical Nurse. 11 Phlebotomy Technician YCST #2077 The Phlebotomy Technician Diploma Program prepares students for employment in the healthcare industry. Skills are developed in both administrative duties, such as scheduling appointments and maintaining medical records; and clinical procedures, including taking and recording vital signs, preparing patients for examination, and drawing blood. Phlebotomy technicians work with patients in hospitals, blood banks and other medical set-ups. They are responsible for drawing blood for a variety of reasons, including lab testing and blood donation. 50 Adult Basic Education/High School Equivalency Program Overview The ABE/HSE Program prepares students to take their GED or HiSET test, as well as enable them to take post-secondary classes and/or enter the workforce. This program is free of charge and open to students 17 years of age or older who are no longer attending a high school program but wish to receive a secondary school credential. It is a year-round program offered at four different locations in York County and provides both morning and afternoon classes. Case Management services are available to help students with career preparation and post-secondary schooling options. This program is designed to assist students prepare for the GED or HISET test by successfully completing: An orientation that includes a comprehensive overview of the program, pre-testing that determines a benchmark in reading, math, and language arts skills, and one s readiness for the exam. Classes that meet a minimum of five hours per week, usually Mondays & Wednesdays or Tuesdays & Thursdays, either mornings or evenings, on a year-round basis. Lessons and homework designed to thoroughly prepare students for all subtests: Reading/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Free practice tests to enable the student and instructor to determine if the student is sufficiently prepared to pass the official GED or HISET Test. Class locations include York County School of Technology, PA CareerLink York County, Lincoln Charter School, and the South George Street Learning Center in cooperation with Crispus Attucks Association. Each site is designed to meet individual needs of students and assist them achieve their goals. GED Testing York County School of Technology is an official test center in Pennsylvania and administers the GED test several times per week. Register online at to make payment and select the day and time you wish to test. Test takers must be 18 years of age and no longer enrolled in high school. Testing is available for 16 and 17 year olds if they meet the criteria established by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, log on to their website, for specific details. 49
