1 February 2012 I am requesting the following information under the Freedom of Information Act Trust Name Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust 2. Number of in-patient wards We have 25 wards excluding 2 Acute Medical Units (AMU), Maternity and Neonatal units. 3. Number of Beds (Excluding Maternity) We have 612 Beds with the same exclusions as above. If the 2 AMU units are included then we have a total of 649 inpatient beds. 4. Whether the Trust uses an e-rostering system and if so, which system and which areas are on board this system The Trust does use an E-Rostering system called MAPS and our supplier is Allocate. All wards are currently using the E-Rostering system, which includes A&E and the Ophthalmology Department. We are currently training Research & Development and the Estates and Maintenance departments to use E-Rostering. The plan is for E-Rostering to be rolled out to all areas/departments across the Trust. 5. Nursing shifts used within each of the In-patient ward areas stating the start and finish times worked Please find enclosed spreadsheet showing ward shift times for inpatient areas. 6. Number of Specialist nurses (WTE) and the specialty they cover. Please find enclosed list with the number (headcount) of Clinical Nurse Specialists by Business Unit (BU) with the specialty they cover. Unfortunately we are unable to provide accurate WTE figures for all specialties, because some posts are not listed by specific job title on our Electronic Staff Records (ESR) system. The ESR system will record that someone is a nurse specialist (job title) but not necessarily the detail of the speciality. Accordingly, whilst we hold the information, retrieving and collating it would likely take well in excess of 18 hours involving costs which would therefore exceed the appropriate fee limit of 450 set out under Freedom of Information & Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2007.
2 The fee limit specified in regulations for NHS trusts represents the cost of one person spending 2½ working days (at a rate of 25 per hour) to determine whether the Trust holds the information requested; then locating, retrieving and extracting that information. Having regard to section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act, in circumstances where the fee limit is likely to be exceeded, then the Trust is not obliged to respond to the request. Accordingly, we are sorry, but on this occasion we will not be processing this part of your request further.
