8 8 Men s Group Thursdays, 1-2:30pm This has got be good. The guys keep coming back. Check it out for yourself. Certificates Do you come to a short course at Oasis? If you want a certificate for the course please let Sue know. You need to come to two or more sessions of a course to get a certificate. 8

9 9 Emergency Housing Oasis Emergency Housing (OEH) in Naenae has been open since February The facility houses up to 15 men aged 18 years upwards who are homeless. OEH works in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) to provide emergency housing for the men for up to three months. During this time the Housing Advocate supports the men to look for permanent housing. About the facility Hillary Court is in central Naenae. Residents enjoy the facilities which include: Fifteen fully furnished single and double rooms Large open dining / living spaces on each floor Large flat screen TV in each living space Fully equipped kitchen Showers and toilets on each floor Laundry facilities on each floor Supergrans support for learning to cook new recipes and budget well Who can be a resident Single men who: want to get into permanent housing have low to mild mental health and/or addiction support needs register on the housing register held by MSD (we will help with this) are able to live communally with others in Oasis Emergency Housing accept permanent accommodation if offered Referrals Agencies can refer people through to OEH. People can self-refer. They need to go to MSD or through a social services agency who send a referral to OEH. Please find our contact details on the back page of this newsletter. 9

10 Study group Fridays 9-12 Quite a few of our members are studying this year. A lot of people are studying the L4 Health and Wellbeing Certificate through the Open Polytechnic. This is a time to bring your mahi in and get your head down. 10 Sue will check in and see how you are going. Volunteers We have quite a few people wanting to volunteer and some different volunteer roles are coming up. Let Sue know if you want to volunteer. The new programme will start in March so register now. You need to uphold Oasis tikanga be reliable be independent (after training) Come to volunteer meetings 10

11 Equally Well is a campaign to improve the physical 11 health of people who experience mental health and addiction problems. Please let staff know if you have a health issue. We will support you to get any help you may need. 26 Feb 4 March New Zealand Hearing Week a friend suggested I get my hearing tested. I did and the result was that I have hearing loss...i would never be able to afford hearing aids she mentioned the Government subsidy and I could afford them.
