It is a large potential feedstock for manufacture of higher value products (3.9 Mt of food processing waste is produced each year) Reduce waste further Gain better economic value from waste and bystreams Opportunity to build the bio-based economy Develop alternatives to oil-derived chemicals e.g. bio-plastics

11 Funding Business Interaction Vouchers Encourage initial interactions between industry & academic researchers (within the thematic areas of FoodWasteNet) Projects must be delivered by an academic to address a business partner s need Up to 8 x 5000 vouchers available in two calls per year ( ) 1 st call attracted 4 applications all awarded 2 nd call open now closing date 25 March

12 Funding Proof of Concept Funds Encourage and support collaboration between academics and industrialists within FoodWasteNet Identify & scope commercial & scientific challenges (within the thematic areas of FoodWasteNet) Each award worth up to Three to four awards available per year ( ) 1 st call attracted 8 applications. We will make 3 awards 2 nd call in early autumn 2015
