1 INIS Training Seminar IAEA Headquarters Vienna, Austria 7 11 October 2013 Information Sheet 1. Background The training seminar is intended for information specialists from the INIS Centres who are directly involved in the operation and use of the International Nuclear Information System (INIS). The programme of the training seminar will concentrate on all aspects of INIS input preparation, submission of non-conventional literature (NCL), the utilization of INIS products and services and the promotion of INIS. The number of INIS records prepared and submitted to INIS during 2013 by the prospective participant will be used as an indication of the applicant s proficiency in INIS input preparation. 2. Participation The nomination of a participant will be accepted only when transmitted by the Government of an INIS Member State or by a cooperating international organization. Each applicant should complete the attached Participation Form and send it to the competent authority for transmission to the Training Seminar Secretariat. Completed Participation Forms must be submitted to the Training Seminar Secretariat not later than 24 June

2 Please note that, should the number of nominations exceed the IAEA s capacity for offering training space and technical facilities, it will be necessary to make a selection. 3. Visas Designated participants who require a visa to enter Austria should submit the necessary application to their nearest diplomatic or consular representative of Austria as soon as possible. 4. Expenditure The IAEA is generally not in a position to bear the travel and other costs of participants in the training seminar. The IAEA has, however, limited funds at its disposal to help meet the cost of attendance of certain participants. Such assistance may be offered upon specific request to normally one participant per country provided that, in the IAEA s view, the participant on whose behalf assistance is requested will make an important contribution to the training seminar. The application for financial support should be made at the time of nominating the participant. If governments wish to apply for a travel grant on behalf of one of their participants, they should address a specific request to the Training Seminar Secretariat. To take full advantage of these funds, governments should ensure that their application for a grant: (a) (b) is submitted by 24 June 2013 (applications received after this date cannot be considered); and is accompanied by a duly completed and signed Grant Application Form (attached). Grant applications that do not comply with the conditions mentioned under (a) and (b) cannot be considered. The grants awarded will be in the form of lump sums covering part of the cost of attendance. No registration fee or other payments are requested from participants. 5. Working Language Since the training seminar will be held in English, it is essential that the participants have a good command of the English language. We would therefore appreciate receiving a certificate of English proficiency together with the completed Participation Form. The certificate must be issued either by an English language school or by a cultural institution or the embassy of a country in which English is spoken. 6. Accommodation Detailed information about accommodation and other items will be sent directly to all selected participants well in advance of the training seminar. 2
