James, Superintendent BOARD LETTER REGULAR BOARD MEETING JULY 23, 2018 REMINDER NEXT BOARD MEETING The Regular Board Meeting will take place on Monday, July 23, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. in the Board Room at the Sylvester Small Administration Building, 70 North Broadway, Akron, Ohio If there is need for an Executive Session, it will immediately follow the regular meeting. KeyBank Foundation Grant for CCAA Akron Public Schools will receive funding in the amount of $250, from a grant awarded to the United Way of Summit County from The KeyBank Foundation to support the transformation of Akron Public Schools high schools into College & Career Academies of Akron, grounded in the development of small learning communities, integrated curriculum and engagement of community partners. The funds will provide for the installation of a financial services learning lab and support the needs of the students in the East CLC Academy of Business and Health Services. Funds will be distributed annually with the first installment of $100, for school year , and remaining funds distributed yearly in $50, increments through school year accept the funds in the amount of $250, from the KeyBank Foundation and to approve the appropriations, identified as Fund This action supports District Focus Area 1: Teaching & Learning Differentiated instruction to meet individual student needs; Focus Area 2: Learning Conditions Implement unique strategic initiatives in each building to enhance learning conditions; and Focus Area 3: Collaboration & Engagement Maximize business and community partnership opportunities to support student success. 4 BOARD LETTER 3 JULY 23, 2018 GAR Foundation Educator Initiative Grants (EIG) Akron Public Schools will receive funding from the Galen and Ruth Roush (GAR) Foundation in the amount of $29, for the period of July 1, 2018 through June 1, 2019, for the following schools: Bridges Learning Center and Glover, Litchfield and Mason CLCs. The funding will support schools in achieving their goal to increase student performance in core content areas. Exchange of Property with the City of Akron In accordance with Ohio Revised Code Section Exchange of Real Estate, which allows, upon a vote of a majority of the members of a board of education and a concurring vote of the legislative authority of a municipal corporation, declaring that an exchange of real estate held by the board for school purposes for real estate held by the City of Akron for municipal purposes will be mutually beneficial to such school district and municipal corporation, such exchange may be made by conveyances. The City of Akron had, prior to the construction of Leggett CLC, purchased properties adjacent to the original site and leased them to the Akron City School District in order for the CLC to be built. The City of Akron has an opportunity to develop the Harris Elementary School property for an area living development.

5 BOARD LETTER 4 JULY 23, 2018 The City of Akron is requesting to exchange the Akron School Board s Harris Elementary School property for property currently owned by the City of Akron, but leased by the School Board for the Leggett CLC. The exchange will be based upon comparable assessed values of the properties. enter into an agreement to authorize this exchange of property.
