7 About community foundations A community foundation is a vehicle for charitable giving. Community foundations work with individuals, families and companies to design bespoke grant making strategies that target particular issues or focus on particular geographical areas. There are 48 accredited community foundations in the UK.

The total was achieved in just 17 days, and the money keeps rolling in. Every penny will go towards helping households and businesses devastated by Storm Desmond and the continuing dire weather. For hundreds of families, Christmas was cancelled when flood waters swept through their homes destroying furniture, white goods and festive presents under the tree.
