SOLOISTS SELECTION PHASE Friday, April 17 During SELECTION phase, SOLOIST candidates will display a solo baile lasting up to six minutes of a palo to be chosen from among: Alegrias, Caña, Fandango, Guajira, Seguiriya, Soleà, Soleà por Buleria, Taranto, Tientos.

7 4/1 a) Candidates have to perform a solo with live guitar and cante. Candidates may perform with a guitar player and a cantaòr of their own choice, in that case at their own expense. Otherwise, candidates will be accompanied by musicians (guitar player/s and cantaòr/es) at one s disposal, paid by the Organizer of the Contest. Each candidate will be granted a minimum of ten minutes to a maximum time, determined at the beginning of the Contest, for rehearsal and agreements concerning the structure of baile. Since the Jurors concern is the evaluation of talent and artistic possibilities of candidates, and not a strict judgment on the presented choreographies, given the limited range of time at one s disposal for rehearsal, especially for the baile - six minutes a too refined choreographic reasearch together with a complex structure of baile are not required, that would need much longer rehearsal. Traditional structure and style of a solo, fully adequate to nonverbal communication codes among musicians and dancer, are thereby required. Baile may be arranged by the candidates themselves or by a choreographer of their own choice. In that case, the name of the choreographer will not be mentioned during the show, nor indicated on Jurors files. 4/1 b) During Selection phase, candidates will wear flamenco class apparel. 4/1 c) At the end of Selection of each subcategory, the names of competitors who have access to the Final will be announced. 4/2.
