Redman, L. Armstrong, E. Clarke, D. Craig, S. Foxton, T. Galloway, D. Jaworsky, H. Jowett, K. Kiefer, G. Lorentz, J. Nowak, K. Seiling, S. Shantz; and B. Vrbanovic Members absent: J. Mitchell, S. Strickland Declarations of Pecuniary Interest under the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act None declared. Presentation Betty Anne Keller, Chair, Region of Waterloo Arts Fund, appeared before Committee to provide a presentation regarding their Annual Update. A copy of the presentation is appended to the original minutes. She compared project funding between 2016 and 2017 and highlighted some supported projects. She also noted the Board is working on developing a communication strategy to encourage applications from artists in the townships, and the importance of supporting emerging artists. Councillor J. Nowak noted Township of Wellesley council would be interested in hearing more about the Arts Fund and invited B.A. Keller to make a presentation

Regular Agenda Resumes COR-TRY-18-16, 2018 Tax Ratios and Tax Policy Craig Dyer, Commissioner, Corporate Services/Chief Financial Officer provided summary comments about the report. He noted consultation is taking place regarding vacant unit rebates and tax rate reductions for vacant and excess land for Commercial and Industrial property taxes, with a Public Open House taking place on Thursday, March 1. Written and public input submissions will be received until March 2. Angela Hinchberger, Director, Treasury Services/Deputy Treasurer, responded to Committee questions about the New Multi-residential property class, noting that the Region will need to wait until a Provincial review is complete before any decisions can be made. She also noted that any reduction to a tax ratio for any class would increase property taxes in all the other classes. Moved by S. Foxton Seconded by L. Armstrong That the Regional Municipality of Waterloo establish the following tax ratios for the 2018 property tax year: Residential New Multi-residential Multi-residential Commercial Industrial Landfill Pipeline Farmland Managed Forest And that the necessary by-laws to implement the 2018 tax ratios and the 2018 regional tax rates be prepared for Regional Council approval; And that the Area Municipalities be notified accordingly, as outlined in report COR-TRY dated February 27, Carried

The daughter, born in a log cabin on Saugeen Ojibwe traditional territory, a quarter mile from Lake Huron's legendary sandy shoreline, was my grandmother.
