WEAR (world engineering anthropometry resource) is an international collaborative effort with the goal to contribute actively to the diffusion and the advancement of knowledge of anthropometry, ergonomics and human factors engineering for health, safety and well-being for all people. The aim is to have WEAR ready at the IEA conference in Beijing in 2009 ( Target group of this newsletter This newsletter aims to inform all the people interested in applied anthropometry about the progress in the realization of the strategic plan for WEAR. 4 Some impressions from the practical sessions The comments of the participants were positive. The meeting of the core members was successful as well. The meetings for Atlanta and Beijing were prepared and the progress of WEAR was discussed. Strategic plan The strategic plan is finalized and will be available for download soon at the WEAR site Legal body WEAR is a legal body. The not-for-profit organization is based in Paris. General assembly meeting July 8, the general assembly meeting of the WEAR consortium was held. WEAR users may join in 2009 when the WEAR portal is finalized. Advantages to Being a WEAR Partner 4

5 1. Partners will be invited to attend semi-annual partner status meetings during development. They will have a say in the content, output and structure of the system as it is developed so they will be able to ensure it meets their individual needs. 2. Corporate partner logos and websites will be advertised on the WEAR website and in the semiannual WEAR newsletter to the anthropometry community. The newsletter provides status reports and worldwide anthropometry happenings. 3. Partners who also provide data, tools, or a node or hub will have WEAR users sent to their site, enabling partners to showcase their capabilities to clients, and in particular to the clients that would be most interested in the partner s information. 4. Gold level partners will receive free WEAR access for two years after it is developed. 5. Partners who have in-kind contributions of data, tools etc. may have their fees waived upon review. 6. WEAR being a non-profit organization the value of monetary or in-kind contributions may qualify for a tax deduction. How Partners May Join There are four levels of partner membership (all fees are in US dollars) with varying levels of benefits: Individual memberships: a. Regular: fee of $2,500 one-time fee if joining in 2008 or later b. Gold: fee of $4,400 one-time fee if joining in 2008 or later. This includes a single waiver of the WEAR use fee for two years after development Corporate memberships: a. Regular: fee of $25,000 one-time fee if joining in 2008 or later. This provides for up to 5 individual memberships. b. Gold: fee of $45,000 one-time fee if joining in 2008 or later. This provides for up to 10 individual memberships with waiver of the use fee for two years after WEAR development. Current members are from the companies Decathlon (F), Sennheiser (USA, D), Applied Health Works (USA), BATA (NL) and Size China/ HongKong University (CH). Regular members get a 50% reduction for WEAR courses; gold members participate for free. Individual members who want to receive the newsletter only, can subscribe for free by registering with WEAR online. WEAR members get free access to the demo version of WEAR database, hosted in France. WEAR mission animated The mission of WEAR is visualized in a 2-minute animation. This animation is downloadable from website using keyword anthropometry. Relation with IEA The International Ergonomics Association ( approved the formation of a Technical Committee on Anthropometry, lead by Johan Molenbroek. The WEAR core members are member of this Technical Committee. Next WEAR meeting The next WEAR meeting will be in Atlanta, US, from February Feb 2 Feb 6, 2009 and will include a short course. 5
