The aim of the fund is to help build strong communities, tackle disadvantage and increase employment opportunities in the Maidstone borough. The scheme particularly aims to improve and support the wellbeing of communities and deliver improvements to the local economy. It is expected that projects would be complementary to the strategic priorities of the council: For Maidstone to have a growing economy - be a good place to work and do business. For Maidstone to be a decent place to live - Support the most vulnerable residents and seek to reduce the different forms of deprivation across the Borough in both urban and rural areas. Contact: Julia Fraser on Ashford - Capital (one off) and Revenue Grants As part of the Community Grants Fund, Ashford Borough Council offers one-off capital and revenue funding for projects that address Ashford Borough Council's funding priorities. 4 Page4 WeDecide! Community Fund Invites Bids for Round 2 Groups working with Southern Housing Group residents in London and across the South of England may apply for funding to support youth activities and community cohesive projects that benefit both residents and the local community. Grants of up to 2,500 can support a number of different things, including activities such as music production workshops and community dog shows, as long as the majority of participants are Southern Housing Group residents. The grant will cover the costs directly associated with the projects, including staff costs, volunteer expenses, hall hire and buying equipment. Southern Housing Group established the WeDecide! Community Fund scheme as part of its active support of youth empowerment. The grants are administered by the Leaders in Community Consultancy which is a youth led panel made up of young volunteers who are Southern Housing Group residents. They meet quarterly to decide which projects will most benefit local communities. Although it is not necessary to be an established organisation or registered charity to apply, groups must be constituted with a bank account in their name and the majority of participants must be Southern Housing Group residents. Grant recipients will receive half of the funds at the start of the project and the other half upon completion, providing they have met their contractual obligations. An application form and guidelines can be found on the Southern Housing Group website at The next deadline for applications is 29 October Big Lottery Fund: Assist A new 6m initiative which will be administered by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO). Assist will help voluntary sector support and development organisations to adapt to the changing needs of the frontline. They will be able to choose what support they need in order to adapt their services to changing needs, funding and expectations of frontline organisations. Voluntary sector support providers can develop their skills by choosing help from national experts via an online menu of support services, and enable them to take part in a peer support programme. Some of the areas covered by the menu of support services include: Establishing trading and new business models Promoting collaboration and partnership Connections to the public sector Creating efficiency Developing and managing assets Connecting to the frontline Co-production Promoting equalities/addressing inequalities Leadership and demonstrating impact Details of how national experts can be included on the menu of support services, and how local and specialist support providers can register interest in receiving support will be available in Sept For more information: PAGE 4
