1 1) What is the status of youth like us in Nepal? Nepal is a country of youth with the median age of the country s entire population being less than 22. According to the 2011 census, 55% of the country s population is below 25 years of age. Unfortunately the youth are seldom seen as an asset for the country, and their energy and innovation get rarely used towards the nation-building task in organized ways. 2) Are we playing sufficient constructive role? We the Nepali youth, especially with access to education are no less than our counterparts anywhere in the world thanks to ever-spreading reach of technology and global media. As modern education got introduced in Nepal rather recently, the generation gap between us, the current day youth and those born years ago is much more steeper than developed countries. This demands from us to play a constructive and meaningful role even more. 3) Who is GEN-NEP? What does DO WELL DO GOOD mean? All of us who believe in the notion of NATION-FIRST above all else are calling ourselves GEN-NEP. We take a pledge to serve our country. Until the country does well, our individual success would not mean much. We also make a commitment to do well in our studies and in our respective careers. Until we are capable ourselves we cannot help our society much. This is what we are calling DO WELL DO GOOD. Doing good in our careers and doing well for the society must go hand in hand. 4) Who can contribute? Every person, be it student, a just-starting or mid-career professional, a proven expert, a wealthy person, a celebrity can do something to improve the situation of the country by contributing whatever s/he has. Every contribution counts. 5) Why Nation First? Until the country and society does well, we Nepalis will always be treated as a thirdworld country across the world. We can only enjoy our professional and personal success when the country is doing well, when our streets and air are clean, when there are opportunities for all, when smiles are all around. We must make an all out effort to accomplish this goal. This is what Nation-First calls for.
2 6) What is The Gen Nep? The Gen Nep is a national youth initiative started by the youth themselves that builds Confidence, Conviction and Character in them by engaging them with inspirational personalities from Nepal and abroad. It gets us volunteering and internship opportunities with various organizations. It helps us build our careers by getting us mentored by well-known personalities of Nepal, and providing them career counseling by leading professionals in their fields. Curriculum Confidence Conviction Character Career Contribution 7) How does DO WELL DO GOOD operate? The Gen Nep addresses us in constructive activity and engages us in nation building task. This is a platform, which allows us to get volunteering, and internship opportunities in private sector organizations, I/NGOs, Government entities and Development Organizations in Nepal. Under the Gen Nep initiative we can get involved in the various activities already designed by us. This platform involves seniors who will provide us inspiration and mentoring which will enhance our career. 8) What is our mission? Our mission is to instill self-confidence among us, to inculcate conviction among us of Nepal s prosperous future, and build a nation-first character among youth like us. 9) What is our Goal? In two years of time, we will be constructing 5,000 strong, self-sustained pools of young volunteers within Kathmandu Valley in the service of the nation, and managing 5 lakh hours of volunteering service for the nation. 10) What is the purpose of the Gen Nep? 3 11) How are we using the Gen Nep platform? Every passing generation is being benefitted by constantly improving curriculum and this is a good thing.
