President s Message Petra Bragadóttir, International President Dear SIEC friends December is always a busy time for teachers, testing, grading and planning the next semester is ahead. The Holiday Season is approaching and while it will be nice to relax during the break and gather strength for the upcoming semester, it s also time to plan for the year ahead. SIEC- ISBE can offer you many opportunities to meet with colleagues from all over the world and has already planned many conferences for SIEC-ISBE members. In the middle of January I will attend meeting in Køge, Denmark, with the Nordic Chapter Presidents and members of the Professional Development Committee in the Nordic Countries. The Executive Committee have their annual meeting in the end of January. The new Professional Development Committee has organized innovations for our organization. Tamra Davis, Chair of the new Committee, and Elisabeth Ribenbauer are doing an excellent job at improving SIEC-SBE. Leszek Preisner and his Organizing Committee in SIEC Poland are preparing for the 87 th International Conference that will be taking place in Krakow July 26 th through July 31st, We hope to have a large turn-out at this conference and hopefully many of you have already started making plans to attend. The theme is Education for Business Sustainability. The German Speaking Chapters are hosting a conference in Istanbul, Turkey May 14 th through May 16 th, 2015 at the Austrian St. Georgs Kolleg. It promises to be a very interesting conference and the theme is Business and Business Education in Turkey Entrepreneurship. If you are interested in participating please contact Hermine Sperl, President of SIEC Austria at office@isbe.at before December 10 th so she can arrange for translations. Petra in Helsinki, Finland At the SIEC Conference Many of SIEC-ISBE members will attend the NBEA Convention in Chicago, March 31 st through April 4 th. There will be an ISBE reception held in conjunction with the NBEA 2015 Convention and the US Chapter will have their annual meeting there as well. Enjoy the Holidays! 2 From the Finnish Chapter The Finnish Chapter hosted an event for members at the Ateneum Art Museum in Helsinki, which has the biggest collection of classical art in Finland. The current extensive jubilee exhibition, Sibelius and the World of Art, highlights composer Jean Sibelius contacts with the art scene of his day. Sibelius ( ) is the internationally best known Finnish composer and his music played an important role in the formation of the Finnish national identity. 5 SOCIETE INTERNATIONALE POUR L ENSEIGNEMENT COMMERCIAL INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR BUSINESS EDUCATION PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE Call for Workshops, Presentations and Posters to be given at the 87 th International Conference 2015 Krakow, Poland July 27 31, 2015 The theme for the 2015 conference is: Education for Business Sustainability The main goal of this conference is to focus on relations between: Education Economy Environment. Recently all these three areas are changing in many countries and in global scale. Presenters might focus on: - improving educational standards - relations between Research & Development undertaken at universities and business - process of greening the education - process of sustaining the business - challenges for schools and universities how to improve labor market - recommended changes in educational programs towards a decrease of unemployment rate - Corporate Social Responsibility and similar programs to increase business responsibility and social awareness - role of innovations - economic restructuring and reindustrialization Keywords sustainable development business education for sustainability business and the environment environmental economics and management greening curriculum and syllabus social business responsibility education for economic restructuring reindustrialization practice and research on teaching and learning Members are encouraged to submit research-based proposal and/or practice-based proposals that support teachers in the classroom. Practice-based proposals may explain a project or activity that is valuable to the classroom teacher. Types of Pedagogical Sessions for 2015 are: Workshop - must address the topic given - 90-minute session - consists of an introduction, discussion and/or activity - is an interactive session - plan about minutes for an overview and the remainder of the session should be an interactive activity (participants expect to be involved)

6 Call for Workshops, Presentations and Posters 87 th International Conference 2015 Krakow, Poland July 27 31, 2015 Presentation - should address the topic given - 60-minute session - the topic is of immediate interest to the participants - consists of a presentation (between 30 and 40 minutes) and discussion - can be used as a round table from different countries to present a shared project Poster - can be research-based or practice-based - may be from an educational institution and provide information about programs or projects - the topic is of immediate interest to the participants - should encourage young researchers - includes a short introduction within a poster session Proposals for workshops, presentations and posters should be submitted to your country s member to the Professional Development Committee (PDC) or to Tamra Davis, PDC-chair ( tdavis2@ilstu.edu) by January 31, Please use the PDC-Submission Form you will find on The review board of the Committee will evaluate the submissions and select those for inclusion in the conference program Notification of this decision will be made by February 28, If you need more information, don t hesitate to contact your national PDC-member or Tamra Davis, PDC-Chair. Please note, that all presenters must be members of SIEC-ISBE in order to present at the conference. If the presenter's home country has a SIEC-ISBE chapter, he/she must join that national chapter. If the presenter is from a country without a national chapter, membership information is available at must register for the entire conference. If membership and registration are not completed by May 31, 2015, you will be removed from the program The PDC will use the following evaluation criteria for 2015 proposals. All proposals will be blind peer-reviewed for content and quality. Priority will be given to proposals which o follow the conference theme (presentations exempted) o are of interest to conference participants o have well qualified presenters o involve conference participants o follow the pro forma guidelines Additional considerations: o Priority will be given to new members and individuals who have not presented at a previous conference. o Home country of presenter will be considered to encourage geographic diversity. Workshops, presentations and posters are designed to exchange experiences and to learn from one another. All accepted workshop, presentation, and poster abstracts will be published in the conference proceedings once presented at the conference. Thank you for supporting our effort. Include your session-description and a digital picture. Please limit your proposal to three pages. Send completed form to your country s Professional Development Committee member or to Tamra Davis, PDC-chair ( tdavis2@ilstu.edu) by January 31, Notification of decision will be by February 28, Title Indicate: W (Workshop) or P (Presentation)or PO (Poster) Workshops, Presentations, and Posters may be either research-based or practice-based. Research-based submissions should follow a clear structure and include aims, methodology, findings, and scientific/educational significance. Practice-based submissions should provide insight into essential aspects of business education, focus on innovative practice experiences, or reflect upon developments relevant for business educators at a national and international level. Visual aids and/or handouts are expected for all types of submissions. W (Workshop): must address the topic given; 90 minutes session; a workshop may be repeated if time allows in the program. Ideally, the workshop presenter will use about 15 to 30 minutes of the session time to introduce the topic and the remainder of the session will consist of audience interaction. P (Presentation): should address the topic given; can be given by two or three teachers from different countries to present a shared project, used as a round table. Is a 60- minute session; includes an overview (about 40 minutes) of the topic with a question and answer period. PO (Poster): may be from an individual, group of individuals, institutions, or agencies. Institution/Agency posters may be used to showcase best-practices and/or programs related to business education. The poster may discuss educational practices, research, or programs within an institution.
