1 The Pistoia Alliance newsletter for September View this in your browser Innovation in Action September 2016 News Project updates Diary dates 2016 President's Challenge Finalists The five finalists of our 2016 President's Startup Challenge are: TBioInfo Radionics Enabler Insightomics Monocl EGO Pharmacelera Each finalist wins US$5,000 and an invitation to pitch for one of two US$15,000 prizes at our conference in Boston next month. Boston is approaching fast! The Pistoia Alliance will be hosting its annual US Conference at the Seaport Hotel in Boston, MA on Tuesday 18th October Panel sessions are being held on IoT, machine/deep learning, and the future of ELNs, and we will incorporate live judging and presentation of the winners of the 2016 President's Startup Challenge. The conference is for Pistoia Alliance members and invited guests only. Registration is still open but places are limited. A waitlist is in operation to manage demand.

To ensure the Pistoia Alliance continues to remain relevant, it needs to change with it. While the Pistoia Alliance has been successful in the past, with a strong and growing membership, alongside a series of successful projects, which have improved the efficiency of global life sciences R&D, the Pistoia Alliance faces a number of challenges which must be met in order to ensure its continued relevance. Read about our new strategy here. IQPC 13th Laboratory Informatics Summit The Pistoia Alliance is a media partner for this event. To support the event, IQPC published a guest blog on their recent Laboratory Data Knowledge Management report. This report examines the key trends in laboratory data knowledge management as well as the challenges and solutions shaping the future of the laboratory informatics landscape. Included is a survey that gathered the responses of stakeholders from around the world asking for insight on some of their known concerns and difficulties as well as key criteria for vendor selection. Healthcare is officially joining the big data club. With the advent of high-throughput genomics, life scientists are starting to grapple with massive data sets, encountering challenges with handling, processing and moving information that were once the domain of astronomers and physicists.
