2 UKTI CONSTRUCTION SEMINARS Two Construction Seminars are being organised by UK Trade & Investment in order to showcase the UK's strengths in sustainable architecture and design, innovative construction methods and building materials, consulting engineering, planning services and urban regeneration. The seminars will be held in Brasília and Recife (2014 FIFA World Cup host cities) where approximately 100 senior Brazilian procurers, decision makers and investors are expected to attend each seminar. UK Missioners will benefit from speaking and networking at both seminars. Presentations will be a showcase of UK excellence and not a company sales pitch. BRAZILIAN ORGANISATIONS MINISTRY OF CITIES Created in 2003, the Ministry of Cities is responsible for integrated policies and actions of urban development, housing, environmental sanitation and urban transport, hence it is made up by four National Secretariats (Housing, Sanitation, Urban Programmes and Transport), in charge of planning, executing and financing projects in the country, such as the Growth Acceleration Programme (PAC); My Home, My Life, the national housing programme; and the National Programme for Quality in the Civil Construction. Mr. Aguinaldo Ribeiro has been the Minister of Cities since February MINISTRY OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION (MCTI) The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation was created in It is responsible for planning, coordinating and controlling activities related to scientific and technologic fields, through national policies for scientific research, IT and automation development and security. It is made up by four National Secretariats: Development and Research Programmes; Science and Technology for Social Inclusion; Technological and Innovative Development; and ICT Policy. Mr. Marco Antonio Raupp is the current Minister of Science and Technology. BRAZILIAN CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY BOARD (CBIC) CBIC was founded in 1957 and aims to carry out issues linked to construction industry and real estate. It gathers together 62 syndicates and trade associations of the construction sector from the whole country. CBIC represents politically the sector and promotes the national integration of construction production chain through its five technical commissions: Public Works, Privatisation and Concessions (COP); Real Estate (CII); Labour Relations (CPRT); Material, Equipments, Services, Technology, Quality and Productivity (COMAT); and Environment (CMA). It also represents the Brazilian construction industry internationally, being part of the Inter-American Federation of the Construction Industry (FIIC). Mr. Paulo Simão is the current president of CBIC. UNIVERSITY OF BRASÍILIA (UNB) The University of Brasília, one of the best universities in Latin America, has a board named Laboratory of the Built Environment, Inclusion and Sustainability (Lacis), which aims to develop research and teaching focused on the built environment innovation and sustainability, considering the social inclusion, environment education and the strengthening of the learning system in industries. Through a partnership among the Brazilian government, UnB, private sector entities and BRE, an Innovation Park will be built on the grounds of the University of Brasília and will include up to 10 demonstration homes and buildings, showcasing the latest low carbon designs, materials and technologies along with a building with office spaces, conference centre, incubator and visitor centre, demonstrating new methods of construction and technologies that are innovative, affordable, fast to build with and sustainable.

It celebrates contemporary trends in those areas and brings together top Brazilian professionals, each responsible for taking over and remodelling a specific room within the designated house (kitchen, master bathroom, teenager s bedroom, etc.) making it the perfect environment to reach opinion-formers within the culture and entertainment sectors. Its reach is quite eclectic, ranging from visiting architects and decorators to higher education students and general public with an interest in trends and culture. The 2011 Brasília edition alone reached nearly R$ 3 million in spontaneous media on a nationwide scale, both print and digital. SINDUSCON-DF SINDUSCON-DF is the entity that officially represents the construction sector for labour negotiations, political, economical, technical, environmental and social issues, aiming to promote strengthening and cohesion of the construction sector in the Federal District. Due to its strategic location, SINDUSCON-DF is also a link between the state SINDUSCONs in the whole country and CBIC. SINDUSCON-DF has also been endeavouring to improve the workforce skills in the whole production process, from the engineers to the works in the building sites. It works through a wide range of commissions such as Parliament Affairs, Environment, Taxation, Public Works, Real Estate, Materials and Production Technologies. 6 Cancellation Charges In the event of cancellation of the programme for reasons beyond the control of UKTI, all costs committed to the date of cancellation will be charged to the companies who would have participated. In the event of cancellation by an individual company, accommodation and internal flight cancellation charges will be charged to individual participants in line with the hotel and airline cancellation policies. Insurance UKTI will have no responsibility for insuring missioners against any risks associated with taking part in the programme. UKTI will not be liable for the consequences of any such risks or any costs incurred. Any insurance required by the participant will be the responsibility of the participant. It is preferred that participants stay at the same hotel as the group for logistical reasons. If you decide to stay elsewhere, it will be your responsibility to find out about any changes to the itinerary during the visit. If you do make your own accommodation arrangements, please ensure you notify us with the details of where you will be staying. I would like to have two representatives from our company on this programme. This will only be allowed if the programme is under-subscribed. At this stage, the interest is strong and therefore space is limited to one person per company. However should you wish for more than one participant to attend please let us know and if there is space available once all the applications have been received, we will look to accommodate your request.
