2 Archcember Architecture + December Arch = Architects, designers, students and the complete architecture community. Cember = A Cember is someone who is strong, even when the world may seem like it's going to crash down around them (urban dictionary meaning). An engaging challenge of story telling through Illustrations, starting in December for all the architects, designers, students, academicians and the whole fraternity of architecture & related fields - interior design, landscape architecture, urban design etc.

3 The Brief All designed objects, whether conceived by an architect, artist, graphic designer, industrial designer, or landscape architect, tell a story. Their stories can sometimes be discerned easily, and at other times need to be discovered through thoughtful consideration. The story can be as simple as a metaphor or as complex as a novel. Just as the adage goes, you can't judge the object (book) by its exterior (cover). The richness of the object is in its content. Architects are natural storytellers it s a process that is inherently built into our creative process and when used properly, it s one of the very best tools in our tool bag.

4 The Challenge Every story or narrative is a series of events tied together into a plot. The key is to display your concept in the most appropriate visual form for the project in question The Archcember challenge is about telling your story through illustrations (sketches/doodles/paintings or computer generated illustrations and graphics) related to architecture. We will give you 3 words every week and you have to tell us a story through your illustration and an article of 200 words which justifies your concept. Not necessarily, but if the illustrations respond to the theme of the contest i.e. Architecture, it would be much more meaningful. Your Sketches can narrate stories through functional or explanatory, social, investigative and sarcastic approaches or comic strips.

6 Judging Criteria: We know you are an amazing story-teller and all the stories are good in their own way. But we will have to choose the best to announce winners and here are few criteria s that the jury has framed: How well the word has been understood by the participant? Originality and creativity Is the work fundamentally different from existing ideas, sketches or stories Interactivity and engagement Is the story interactive enough to engage the jury and grab their attention 60% marks will be given to the illustration and 40% will be awarded for the story considering the points above. Do not: Forge or copy illustrations, ideas or stories available on the internet or anywhere else.

7 Registration The registration for the competition is FREE. Eligibility Anyone under the sky is eligible for this Submission Requirements Participants will have to upload the submissions on the competition page of SqrFactor s website - Uploaded design/article image size should not be more than 2 MB. Important Dates 4 th Dec 17 Start of Competition 29 th Dec 17 End of Competition. Important dates of every week - 4 th,6 th, 8 th 11 th, 13 th, 15 th 18 th, 20 th, 22 nd 25 th, 27 th, 29 th Dec 17. Submissions of entries before 6 PM and Day Winners will be announced at 11PM on every next day respectively. Ex : On 5 th Dec before 6 PM, the participants will have to submit their illustrations and at 11PM, the winners of 4 th Dec will be announced and so on. Week Winners and 3 words for a week will be announced at 11 PM on dates 3 rd, 10 th, 17 th, 24 th and 31 st Dec th Jan 18 Final Result announcements and dispatching of gifts/goodies and Certificates.

8 Awards We have divided this in three categories Day Winners, Week winners, Month winners and The Master Story Teller Day winners Top 2 day winners illustrations with stories will be published on front page of website and social media accounts of SqrFactor + surprise goodies Week winners Top 3 week winners will get their best story or the unpublished story published on the collaborated platforms + Goodies from SqrFactor, Leewardists and Certificates. PS : The week winners will be decided on every week s performance and the marks awarded in previous week won t have any cumulative effect Month Winners Top 5 winners (adding cumulative marks for all 4 weeks) will get their interview + best story published on platforms and get goodies from Sqrfactor, Leewardist and Certificates The Master Story Teller This award will be given to the best performer amongst the month winners and apart from getting everything mentioned above, you might get a chance to work with us (Paid Internship).

9 FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) Archcember Storytelling through Illustrations I like the competition but I cannot participate for the complete month. Can I participate only for one day and will I be eligible for the Day Winner category? Yes, you can participate only for one day and you will be eligible for the Day Winner category. I have skipped the first few days or week/weeks, can I enter the competition in the middle and still be eligible for the Day/Week/Month Winner Category? Yes, even if you have missed first few days or weeks of the competition, you can still participate in the competition and be eligible for the Day/Week winners category but not Month Winner Category. I have just participated 2 days in a week and I have been awarded as a Day winner both times, Am I eligible for the week winner Category? Week winners will be announced on the basis of participation and cumulative marks of all 3 days. You are only eligible for the Week Winner category, if you have participated all 3 days of the particular week irrespective of the cumulative marks you get in 2 days or the participation in previous weeks. s How do I become the Month Winner (Title Winner) or Win the Master of Story telling title? You will have to participate for the complete month all the 12 days of the month for you to be eligible for the Title Winner Category.

10 Jury Panel Anuj Kale Founder Leewardist Anuj Kale completed his masters in urban design from CEPT University, India. He founded Leewardists in Jan 2014 and has been working under the name since then. His illustrations have got featured on Archdaily, Dezeen, Zingyhomes etc. Also, he has been producing illustrations related to architecture in partnership with Archdaily. Fabiola Morcillo Founder 1989 www fabiolamorcillo.com Fabiola Morcillo, an architect from the University of Chile, is 26-years-old and has been formally drawing under the name 1989 for about a year and a half. Her illustrations have got published in Archdaily, Koozarch and a lot other architecture and graphic design websites.

Type Paid Competition National (1200, 1800, 2400 INR) In association with Envisioning Gwalior Trade Fair The aim of the competition was to re-design Gwalior Trade Fair to reawaken the glory of a historic trade fair ground and to give back the original charm, through sustainable architecture, for the Land which is owned by Gwalior Trade Fair Authority.
