1 June 23 rd, 2016, Brussels Dear EPR Directors, dear EPR Centre Coordinators, The European Platform for Rehabilitation and AFID Diferença Foundation have great pleasure in inviting your organisation to the EPR Annual Conference This year, the conference will take place in the delightful city of Lisbon, Portugal, on September. New target groups, new technologies, new societal trends have emerged and will increasingly shape the future landscape for rehabilitation actors. These evolutions of society raise questions of prime importance for EPR members concerned with the relevance, the quality and the sustainability of their services. The Annual Conference 2016 proposes a look into this potential future and hence it has been titled: Evolving societies, evolving services: through the looking-glass Participants will be invited to reflect on how service providers to people with disabilities can best approach upcoming societal and demographic challenges to transform them into business opportunities and answer clients needs. Attached to this invitation you will find the draft programme of the Annual Conference, as well as a Practical Information document. You may also consult the activities planned in the margins of the Conference, such as the Welcome Reception and EPR regular business meetings planned on 20 th September, the day before the Conference. Participation in the Annual Conference is free of charge and is open till 2 nd September to all professionals from EPR member organisations. 2 Building capacity for excellence in service provision for people with disabilities Evolving societies, evolving services: through the looking-glass EPR Annual Conference September 2016 Lisbon, Portugal Draft Programme Rehabilitation services aim to create equal opportunities and facilitate independent participation of all individuals in society. They are constantly re-inventing themselves to best respond to the needs of their clients, which evolve with society. Evolutions in society are intense and rich, creating challenges but also a wealth of opportunities for service providers. These have to anticipate and understand upcoming changes in order to ensure the relevance and sustainability of their services. This year, the EPR Annual Conference proposes that EPR members take a critical look at their services while analyzing trends in the European societies of tomorrow: what demographic trends are and will be tangible for rehabilitation service providers? Where are new needs emerging, and how can they be transformed into business opportunities? While clients may evolve, society as an inclusion actor also changes - how can societal evolutions be best taken into account when working for inclusion? On the first day of the conference, participants will be invited to participate in a joint reflection on what the future may be like in years time, before brainstorming on the relationship between innovation and funding, and focusing on specific challenges and innovations in workshops. On the second day, the conference will propose an insight into initiatives from EPR and its members. This conference has received financial support from the European Union Programme for Employment and Social Innovation EaSI ( ). For further information please consult: 1

6 Workshop abstracts Workshop 1: INDIVERSO: Inclusive diverse solutions for VET Education, counselling and support structures in the field of vocational education and training of young people with mental impairments Erasmus+ project Vocational education and training is commonly associated with barriers and the risk of exclusion for young people with mental impairments. There is furthermore a drastic increase in the number of young people with mental impairments in VET programmes. This poses challenges for employers, trainers and teachers who lack a sufficient repertoire of activities and appropriate support. The INDIVERSO project partnership is developing special education, counselling and support structures which meet the individual needs of these young people and serve all pedagogical staff who are involved in this process. The project result is a methodical toolbox with seven instruments which enables these young people to be successfully engaged in education, training and employment. This training in working groups will focus on introducing participants to the implementation and everyday use of some selected instruments of the tool box, addressing in more detail: Person driven planning; collegial case-counselling (intervision); coach-training; information and training offers for firms; regional networking. Workshop leaders: Martin Künemund, project coordinator, Josefsheim Bigge, Germany Edite Sobrinho, AFID, Portugal Minna Sild, Liina Teesalu, ASTANGU, Estonia Sara Marcos Ispierto, Pablo Martinez, INTRAS, Spain Jan Steven Eilander, Birgit Grimbergen, REA College Pluryn, the Netherlands Workshop 2: Dealing with ageing at local level: what policies? What strategies? "Strategic Plan for Sustainable Ageing in Amadora":in the past years the municipality of Amadora has shown a high increase in the ageing of its population, confirming the national and European demographic trend. Based on this trend, the Amadora municipality has developed projects addressed to senior citizens. In the beginning of this year along, with a large number of entities, both private and public, as well as end users, the municipality drew up a Strategic Plan involving these different stakeholders with a common purpose: to understand and create strategies and services for the senior population, cope with and live better this stage of their lives. The methodology of this plan, as well as the result analysis, is being developed by the Instituto Superior de Ciências Sociais e Politicas (ISCSP) from the University of Lisbon. This conference has received financial support from the European Union Programme for Employment and Social Innovation EaSI ( ). For further information please consult: 5
7 The objective of this Workshop is to present this Plan and its methodology, to demonstrate the role of all partners and how can this Strategy be applied in other municipalities and countries. It will entail group dynamics and focus groups to reflect together about the subject and its transferability. Workshop leaders: Prof. Dr. Fernando Serra (and his research team: Ana Esgaio, Carla Pinto, Paula Pinto) Instituto Superior de Ciências Sociais e Politicas (ISCSP), University of Lisbon Dra. Ana Moreno, Municipality of Amadora Workshop 3: FROG Online Identity: a taste of emotional and mental innovation FROG Online Identity is a leadership program that creates mental and emotional innovation in each participant. FROG is mainly used for youth at risk and people who for different reasons need extra support to make choices for the future and to move forward in life. The program consists of 42 exercises through 150 hours of training. And the results are very good. In this 3-hour workshop you will learn what the FROG-program is about and learn some tools to use in your own work. Here is what one of our certified trainers say about her experience: Finally I have more tools that create change and it works and it works right away! - Mette Omnes, FROG-trainer in GREP Grenland Here is a statement from a former participant: "The program has so far changed my life in a better direction than anything else I've participated in. The way they connect values, abilities and dreams allows me to defend and explain why I will follow my dream. The fact that I have worked intensively with myself using the tools the program has given me, is the reason why I'm in a much better place in life now, and that only after 6-week program. - Karl Henrik Pedersen, 22 years old. Workshop leader: Ingeborg Lykseth; lyk-z & daughters Workshop 4: Assistive technology: a key to inclusion This workshop will analyze and discuss the main key issues involved in assistive technology (AT) assessment and provision, in the light of the latest technological advancement and policy documents (such as the UN Convention, the AAATE/EASTIN Position Paper on AT Service Delivery and the just-published Priority Assistive Products List of the World Health Organization). The workshop will also address - by means of case studies - the assessment and empowerment processes by which appropriate AT solutions can be identified and implemented for each person in relation to her or his individual needs. Finally, the role of information systems - such as the European Assistive Technology Information Network and the connected national public AT databases - will be analyzed and discussed. The workshop will give to the participants the opportunity to gain a better insight into the AT world and learn about up-to-date methodologies and tools that help make the AT provision process effective and efficient for both the user and the providing agencies. Workshop leaders: Renzo Andrich, Lucia Pigini; IRCCS Fondazione Don Carlo Gnocchi This conference has received financial support from the European Union Programme for Employment and Social Innovation EaSI ( ). For further information please consult: 6
8 Workshop 5: Fundraising planning and analysis As the programs and projects of non-profit organisations expand, the need for money to run their operations becomes all the more critical. Their objective is to get donations; more than donations they need followers; more than followers they need to develop a system to win them over, a system that lead them to donate more and more frequently. Therefore, a system that leaves a legacy and promotes joy and altruism in the donors, and leads them to identify strongly with the organization. This workshop will offer a set of strategies to the participants to reinforce sustainability and to turn their public into active and voluntary donors. Workshop leader: Dr. Félix Lungu, Fundaçao AIS-ACN Foundation Tuesday 20 September EPR business meetings: 09:30 16:30: Outcome Measurement in Vocational Training (open to group members and interested EPR members upon registration) 14:30 16:30 Board of Directors (open to Board members and Directors of Full members) 16:30 18:00 General Assembly (open to Directors of Full and Associate members) The EPR business meetings will take place in AFID premises. Bus transfers from the Forum Picoas to AFID will be organized for each meeting. Participants will receive relevant information separately. 9 EPR ANNUAL CONFERENCE SEPTEMBER 2016 LISBON, PORTUGAL Travel & Practical Information Welcome to Lisbon for the 2016 Annual Conference Filmed, sung and described by artists and visitors from all over the world, the famous light of Lisbon is the best guide to understanding this city of contrasts. Lisbon was founded over 20 centuries ago, built on hills along the banks of the river Tagus, as it approaches the Atlantic Ocean. Encouraged by architectural tradition, this is reflected in the often extremely narrow streets winding their way up and down the riverfront hills, establishing the borders of historical neighborhoods each with their respective traditions and styles. Lisbon is a historic capital, a potpourri of unusual character and charm, where 800 years of cultural influences mingle with modern trends and life styles creating spectacular contrasts. And the present is marked by an equal openness to the 21st century world with contemporary museums, prominent cultural events and all the styles of a cosmopolitan city.
