Erasmus Staff Week The Erasmus Staff Week of the University of the Azores (UAc) is an initiative of the International Relations Office, with the objective of receiving the Institutional Coordinators

1 Erasmus Staff Week The Erasmus Staff Week of the University of the Azores (UAc) is an initiative of the International Relations Office, with the objective of receiving the Institutional Coordinators and the administrative staff from our partner Universities, and exchanging valuable knowledge on managing the Erasmus actions. As the Lifelong Learning Programme Erasmus enters its last years, it is important to share all the information and experience that we have gathered, and try to learn from each other how to better manage our offices and our exchanges. The International Relations Office of the UAc is working at the moment with the following actions of the LLP: Erasmus (SMS, SMP, STA, STT, IP, EILC); Leonardo da Vinci (Multilateral Projects). During the Erasmus Staff Week, the participants will get to know the University, its Departments and services, and the beautiful Island of São Miguel.

2 The University at a Glance The University of the Azores is a public institution of higher education dependent on the Portuguese Ministry of Science and Education. Established in 1976 with the aim of fostering the sustained development of the archipelago of the Azores, it currently has about students, 490 faculty members and 240 staff members. It is divided in three campuses: Ponta Delgada Campus (Island of S. Miguel), Angra do Heroísmo Campus (Island of Terceira) and Horta Campus (Island of Faial). It is structured in departments and schools, each of them oriented towards specific teaching and research areas.

5 Localisation Straight in the middle of the Atlantic, between North America and Europe, at a distance of 760 maritime miles from Lisbon and 2110 from New York, three groups of volcanic islands make up the Archipelago of the Azores. The archipelago is divided into: the Eastern group Santa Maria, São Miguel, the Central Group Terceira, Pico, Graciosa, São Jorge, Faial, and the Western Group Flores and Corvo.

6 How to get to the Island of São Miguel There are regular daily flights from Lisbon to the Island of S. Miguel (John Paul II Airport). For further information about air transport, please visit or John Paul II Airport is about 5 km from Ponta Delgada s city centre, and a taxi ride is between 6 and 9 euros.
