Public art exhibitions like Go Superlambananas are an invaluable piece of the jigsaw in contributing to Liverpool s rejuvenated sense of pride. 7 Case Study - Gromit Unleashed Contributed 123m to local economy 1.18m visitors including 900,000 additional Hotel bookings in Bristol up 6% during the event. 91% of visitors explored new parts of the city World-wide media coverage 2.3m raised for Bristol Children s Hospital 10

8 What WIA events deliver Increased community engagement, pride and integration 43% of visitors to GoGoGorillas! thought the event created a stronger sense of community in Norwich. Increased exploration including residents re-discovering their city 50% of visitors to GoGoGorillas! visited parts of Norwich they wouldn t normally go to. 11

10 Objectives The Big Hoot 2015 To touch the lives of everyone in Birmingham with a mass participation event - creating community cohesion and civic pride. To bring together local artists, schools, companies and organisations from all sectors to create inspiring partnerships to re-inforce Birmingham s status as a vibrant and culturally exciting city. To unite the communities of Birmingham in a significant fund raising drive to raise considerable funds to contribute to the future of Birmingham Children s Hospital and promote the health and wealth messages to the wider community. 15

11 The Big Hoot: how it works. Businesses, community groups, charities, education establishments and individuals invited to sponsor a blank owl the canvas. Artists, both well known and undiscovered are invited to submit designs to present to sponsors. Local schools will also be invited to participate. Up to 120 individually designed owls will go on display through the streets, parks and public spaces from July to September 2015 for all to enjoy. After the event, the large sculptures will be sold at auction with the net proceeds raised to support Birmingham Children s Hospital. 18

13 The Big Hoot: the trail Up to 120 uniquely decorated owl sculptures sited in streets, parks and public places for weeks in summer 2015 Exact locations are to be confirmed. Guided by sponsors and partners. Working with Culture and Visitor Economy Division, Transportation Policy Team and Regeneration to identify potential sites that can complement the Cycling Revolution initiative and Be Active team. Subject to funding, The Big Hoot Community Programme will connect to 10 districts through the Local Arts Fora/community groups working with Parks and key stakeholders. Up to 200 Owlet sculptures, created via the schools programme, to be exhibited in clusters in cultural / shopping centres to complement main trail. 18

14 The Big Hoot: the trail continued Trail maps will be produced and available in printed format and downloadable from website App will be created to incentivise people to visit all of the sculptures Suggested locations outside of the city centre have been placed onto a map of the city that are linked to places of interest, cycle routes, parks and green spaces 18
