5 Best Project Awards The buildingsmart Best Project award is granted to projects that demonstrate and inspire the use of open standards in the AEC and facility management industries. The intention with the award is to learn about projects that use the buildingsmart standards and publish them on the buildingsmart website in order to demonstrate and inspire others to follow their example. However, we don't only want to learn about the success stories. Thus, the competitors are also encouraged to bring forward problems and challenges where the standards or the software does not work as expected.

6 Evaluation The evaluation will be done in two stages. The 5 best projects in the first stage will go to the next stage and be presented on buildingsmart internationals website. In the next stage the winner will be selected from the five. buildingsmart encourage projects teams and operators to apply for the Best Project Award initiated by buildingsmart International. The applicants have to be full paying members of their national buildingsmart chapter. The project has to be within the geographic borders of the same chapter. The first annual Best Projects will be awarded at the international buildingsmart meetings in Toronto October 2014.

10 Criteria buildingsmart is looking for projects that meet the following criteria: Demonstrate a comprehensive BIM with all the disciplines represented and a high level of completeness. Demonstrate beneficial use of buildingsmart deliverables in design, construction or operation. Inspire the industry and authorities to adopt the open standards developed or acknowledged by buildingsmart. Share experiences between and beyond the project participants.

11 Develop material to the competition Several types of material should be prepared and submitted to buildingsmart international in order to participate in the competition. The abstract is the key in the application as you here has the opportunity to showcase the breadth and depth of your project. Be sure your submission contains: Developing a detailed and concise abstract in 250-1,000 words that defines the project goal and how it was achieved. Explaining how obstacles and challenges were overcome. Basic project information. Providing statements from project participants and third parties about their benefits by the use of open standards. Samples of gained experiences in the projects related to the use of buildingsmart standards. Maximum three images (300 dpi or higher resolution) in TIFF, JPEG, or EPS formats.

12 Develop material to the competition Be sure your submission contains: Minimum an Ifc model of the whole envelope of the building, which will be used to evaluate the model and to generate wireframe and rendered illustration of the model, and an Ifc model of a part of the project with all disciplines represented which will illustrate the completeness of the model. The models will be handled discretely by the evaluation team. However, it will be appreciated if the models can be donated to the buildingsmart community and used world-wide to demonstrate the use of open standards.

13 5 Best projects on the Web The following information is required and will be presented on the buildingsmart website for the 5 best projects per category Minimum one rendered image for presentation, photo quality. One wireframe and one rendered image of the model will be generated from the enclosed Ifc files. Information about: Name and location of the project, type of building Project owner / client Design team Size in square meters Total cost estimate / budget Stage now (design, construction, finished) with scheduled construction start and/or finish date if not yet in one of those stages Model size of Ifc model and number of files The BIM authoring tool used by the different disciplines Downstream software applications used by the different team members and the purpose they have been used for. Successes and challenges.
