Our students, faculty, and staff are committed to that charge and utilize over 450 buildings and 10 million square feet of assignable space on its vibrant Raleigh campus to deliver on that commitment day in and day out. Their work is complex and is often ground-breaking. Our NC State facilities team uses a wide range of technical and managerial skills coupled with collaboration and teamwork to ensure that the operation, maintenance, repair and recapitalization of the built environment meets the needs of those who call NC State home. Our team of skilled professionals is not large enough to handle all of the daily tasks of keeping the university in tip top shape. We need the help of capable and committed partners to work alongside university employees every day to keep the lights on and our buildings and infrastructure fully functioning. We need to include many capable and committed partners to accomplish the work at hand. Having a successful Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) program at NC State is an essential component of our stewardship of the taxpayer s resources and our HUB program helps the university reach as many capable partners as possible. I encourage you to learn more about our wonderful university and discover where you can help us. We will all benefit from your efforts. Sincerely, Doug Morton, Associate Vice Chancellor Facilities Division Message from Shon Burch-Crispin, Capital Projects Program Manager Capital Project Management Greetings, Spring has sprung and, Capital Project Management (CPM) is busier than ever constructing new buildings, repairing seasoned buildings, and developing avenues to grow the campus for future generations. As we continue to renew and renovate the campus, the HUB Program continues to reach out to the community to meet and connect with those firms that are ready, capable, and qualified to work on projects at NC State University., Capital Project Management takes pride in having qualified HUB contractors working on the many projects scattered across campus. We have had a successful year recruiting, pushing out project information to a variety of contractors and bringing new minority firms to the table to meet with Capital Project Management and Facility Services staff. We had a successful 2016 Information Session in November, 2016, Doing Business With NC State University. We are looking to have another session in the near future. To be sure you are on our distribution list for more information on upcoming sessions and projects across the State of NC, do not hesitate to contact me. 2 The HUB Advisory Committee s mission is to provide advice and counsel to the NC State Facilities Division with the intent to reach and exceed the State of NC s goal for HUB participation on building projects. The NCSU HUB Advisory Committee meets twice a year, in the Spring and Fall. The Advisory Committee has recently added new members, Andre Johnson, Shelley McPhatter and Dan Stafford. Two members of the committee have completed their two year term. We sincerely appreciate Renee Jones and Johnathan Locklear for their committed service and participation on the committee. The committee continues to provide advice on strategies for NC State to enhance the University s opportunities to communicate with HUB organizations. Additionally, the committee provides suggestions on processes and procedures that will improve the opportunity for HUB designers and contractors to participate on formal, informal, and repair and renovation projects at NC State. The Advisory Committee provides objective feedback to the Facilities Division staff concerning its performance in achieving the mission. Andre received his Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering in 1997 from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina and a Master of Architecture degree in 1999 from Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. Andre has contributed to the success of multiple projects throughout the country in his nearly 18 year architectural career. Andre is licensed in Maryland and North Carolina and is a member of the American Institute of Architects, Society of College and University Planners (SCUP), the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and a former member of the SCUP Planning Academy. He is also currently a member of the Triangle Area Design Society (TADS), which is an invitation only design society for leading individual voices for architectural design excellence in the Triangle Area. Andre has been recognized by his peers and clients to possess a rare combination of design excellence ability, management ability, technical knowledge of the built environment and excellent client service. He has established relationships through successful projects with clients such as, Duke University, St. Augustine s University, North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, the General Baptist State Convention of NC, Grace AME Zion Church and the NC Department of Transportation, all within the firm s first two years. Andre has been directly responsible for the design and leadership for every project within the office including leading the firm in receiving six (6) American Institute of Architects (AIA) design awards in the first two years of his firm s founding. His design leadership has yielded design awards at the local, state and regional levels. Andre also mentors and assists in the development of younger architects and volunteers his time with African American high school students interested in architecture. Andre's greatest blessing is his wife, three sons and one daughter that are constantly an inspiration and source of encouragement. He has been active in Habitat for Humanity in New York and in North Carolina throughout the years and served as a mentor to African American high school males through the 100 Black Men of America. Since 2007, Andre has served as the pastor of The First Baptist Church of Franklinton, North Carolina. 2

3 Shelley McPhatter, President, BridgePoint General Contracting and Construction Services Shelley McPhatter, President and Founder of BridgePoint, has more than 20 years of experience in the construction industry. In 2007, Shelley founded BridgePoint Construction Services, which delivers unparalleled Owner s Agent services to developers, architects, facility managers, and owners. After several successful years and at the request of her clients, Shelley launched BridgePoint General Contracting in 2013 to provide general contracting services to her clients including tenant fit-ups, interior renovations, facilities projects, historic renovations and new construction. Newest to BridgePoint s growing business is the Civil division. Launched in 2016, BridgePoint Civil is a turnkey site development company that provides earthwork, underground utilities, paving and site concrete construction. Shelley s dedication to her clients and employees, her superior leadership demonstrated through integrity and communication and her dri ve to get the job done have earned her the trust and respect of clients and colleagues in the Triangle and beyond. Dan has ten years experience in managing minority business center offices and extensive knowledge of MBDA marketing and administrative operations, and 30 years experience in preparing comprehensive business plans, loan packages, and market feasibility studies. Dan successfully manages Center s staff, operations, and vision in meeting MBDA goals and achieving Outstanding Performance Ratings. The MBDA Business Center provides technical & managerial and business development services to minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned and disadvantaged-owned businesses throughout North Carolina. NCIMED operates the MDBA Business Center under a cooperative agreement with the US Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency. Though Dan s career in small and minority economic development has continued for over 30 years, he still allows time to pursue another strong interest-music, particularly in the genres of folk, country and bluegrass. Dan is an accomplished musician and songwriter, a student of guitar and other stringed instruments. This continuing experience has taken him from talent shows, to choir musician, to coffeehouse management and performance, and on to various church and small group events. He and his wife, Beck Stafford, an elementary music educator and a performer in her own right, have performed at NC resort area folk team ministries and at the World s Fair, Knoxville, Tennessee, as well at the Greater Raleigh Chamber 2014 Arts Forum. Dan received his Bachelor of Arts from Appalachian State University and his Masters of Business Administration from Western Carolina University. He is also a NASBITE Certified Global Business Professional, a graduate of Leadership Raleigh, and a graduate of Leadership North Carolina. 3

Since May 2014, he has been the CEO of GP Supply Company and responsible for the overall strategic direction and financial management of the company. Prior to acquiring GP Supply Company, Mr. Wallace spent fifteen years working in the banking industry. His passion for business and helping others has led him to a number of volunteer opportunities and community leadership roles. Mr. Wallace received his B.A. in Business Administration at Morehouse College in 1995 and a Masters in Business Administration at Harvard Business School in Company Overview GP Supply Company (GPS) is a $15 million distributor of pipe, valves, fittings and fixtures serving over 700 customers in the Carolinas and Virginia. The company has 34 employees and currently operates out of three facilities in Greensboro and Winston-Salem to cover North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. With over 30,000 square feet stocked, comprised of over 30,000 different items from 300 vendors, GPS is well positioned to serve the contractor, education, government, hospitality, energy, commercial and industrial sectors. GPS is certified as an MBE via the state of North Carolina and Carolinas-Virginia Minority Supplier Diversity Council. Connectivity to NCSU As a leading distributor of mechanical, industrial and commercial plumbing supplies, GP Supply Company (GPS) is well positioned to sell MRO supplies directly to the school. Over the past year, NCSU has purchased over 105 SKUs from GPS for its day-to-day campus maintenance needs. In addition, GPS is well positioned to provide supplies (pipe, valves, fittings and commercial plumbing supplies) for the school s capital projects via its long-standing relationships with mechanical and commercial plumbing subcontractors. The GPS team regularly provides quotes for supplies to subcontractors bidding on NCSU projects. In the past, GPS has provided supplies for the NC State Talley Student Center and the Research II HVAC Renovation project. 4

5 INFORMATION SESSION: DOING BUSINESS WITH NCSU Historically Underutilized Business Program 2016 Information Session NCSU, Capital Project Management and other Facilities and University Departments conducted an information session on November 15, 2016 on How to Do Business with. The session focused on the requirements needed from contractors to work on various types of construction and repair and renovation projects at NC State University. The presenters were staff members in the departments of Capital Project Management, Facilities Services, and Purchasing.. Presentations focused on the mission of the NCSU HUB Program, HUB certification, contractor prequalification process, CMR opportunities, mentor protégé program, NCSU projects and NCSU Purchasing requirements. There was also a question and answer session after each topic. Attendees had the opportunity to meet and greet key NCSU staff members and make connections with others in the facilities and construction industry. Feedback surveys were completed by attendees and from comments received it appears the information session was successful. Comments were very positive relative to the material presented and the networking session at the end of the information session. We are looking to have the same and/or similar sessions in the near future. 6 NCSU HUB PROGRAM ON THE MOVE NCSU OUTREACH Capital Project Management HUB Program hosted the UNC -GA HUB Coordinators meeting on March 24, HUB Coordinators and Diversity Managers representing universities throughout the state of NC were in attendance. The meeting was held in the Talley Student Center. Doug Morton, Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities, opened the meeting by welcoming the attendees t o the University. The meeting was facilitated by UNC GA staff. Various topics were discussed including campus project updates, Interscope+ and HUB reporting, and the importance of minority firms participation on campus projects. The meeting concluded with a presentation on the NCSU Reynolds Coliseum Renovation project and a tour of the newly renovated Reynolds Coliseum. 6

7 NCSU PROJECT IN THE SPOTLIGHT Gregg Museum of Art + Design Project Summary: Renovation of the former Chancellor s Residence, consisting of approximately 6,000-SF two-story brick residence, and a new 15,000-SF, two-story addition with basement, to create an art museum. The Chancellor s Residence was renovated to house offices for the museum staff, a reception area for the museum and storage along with necessary changes to meet ADA requirements. The new addition includes new two-story space for three art galleries and a basement level for processing and storing exhibits. This project is of great significance to NC State University, providing a much needed home for an extensive art inventory. The project was unique in that it was a partnership with both the City of Raleigh and Wake County to strengthen the showcase for art exhibits and activity adjacent to the existing Pullen Arts Center. 8 LOOK AHEAD PROJECTS Delivery Method: GC Single Prime Varsity Research Building Renovations - Phase 1: This project renovates approximately 15,380 gross square feet of space in the VRB to accommodate office and lab requirements for Plant Pathology. The project will convert office space in Modules 4 & 5 into a mix of office and lab space. Portions of the lab space in Modules 2 & 3 will also be renovated. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $2,900,000. Anticipated bid date is March 29, Dan Allen Parking Deck Repairs: his project will provide parking deck maintenance repairs. Repairs include top deck resurfacing and re-sloping as well as the application of a protective coating material to address water ponding and infiltration issues. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $1,400,000. Anticipated bid date is April 10, CBC Chilled Water Expansion: NCSU s Centennial Biomedical Campus (CBC) thermal utility needs are served by a central steam and chilled water generation plant. This project is the first phase of a two-phase project intended to provide the campus with reliable thermal utilities, additional capacity, and greater energy efficiency through the next decade of campus expansion. This phase includes the replacement of the plant controls system, replacement of an existing 800-ton gas engine driven chiller, condensate and dearator replacements, electrical upgrades and plant deficiency repair. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $4,000,000. Anticipated bid date is July 11, North & Central Electrical Distribution: This project implements the first phase of six recommended phases from the University Electrical Distribution Master Plan. This phase provides for the necessary substation equipment replacement, switchgear upgrades, and recircuiting the campus distribution from the substation in a loop around Bragaw Hall with extension to Broughton Hall. The project provides a phased approach to address operational and functional issues and ensure reliability within the current medium voltage electrical distribution infrastructure. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $4,100,000. Anticipated bid date is July 11, Patterson Hall Business Center Renovation: This project will renovate the ground floor of Patterson Hall to accommodate the programmatic needs of the CALS Business Office. The floor plan will be revised and existing HVAC, electrical, fire alarm and lighting systems will be upgraded. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $1,637,000. Anticipated bid date is July 12, Murphy Center Broadcast Studio: This project renovates about 5500 SF in the Murphy Center. The existing racquetball court, conference rooms, and office space will be converted into a broadcast center that will accommodate donated media broadcast equipment. Electrical and mechanical capacity will be modified to support the new equipment. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $5,500,000. Anticipated bid date is July 28, Reedy Creek Equine Farm: Design and construction of a 7800 SF Theriogenology building, 2300 SF Recipient Mare Building, paddocks, fencing, site work, utilities and other items required to support the establishment of an Equine Health Facility at Reedy Creek Equine Farm. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $2,400,000. Anticipated bid date is August 23, Scott Hall HVAC Upgrades: This project will replace the air handlers and controls in Scott Hall, including make-up air units and zone temperature control air handlers. This will replace equipment past its useful life and also correct the dehumidification problem in the building. Controls and monitoring system in the bird wing will also be upgraded. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $750,000. Anticipated bid date is September 29, Greek Infrastructure-Phase III: This project develops lots 8, 9 and 10 for new fraternity houses. It includes construction of the roads, parking lots, and infrastructure associated with the overall development and implementation of the houses. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $5,500,000. Anticipated bid date is October 26, Dearstyne Entomology and Avian HVAC Upgrade: This project includes installing new roof-top air handlers with network controls, boiler refurbishment/replacement and new ductwork in the Dearstyne Avian Building. The project also includes new HVAC for the isolation rooms and building waterproofing for the Dearstyne Entomology Building. The project will require minor building modifications to accommodate the equipment change. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $1,500,000. Anticipated bid date is November 20,

Project Delivery Method: CMR Case Commons Residence Hall: This project construct a residential facility to house student athletes and the general student population on the Central Campus Precinct. The facility will provide approximately 62 beds, including resident advisors and accessible rooms. This project will move students from off campus housing facilities to a location in close proximity to athletic and academic facilities. The project also includes community space, study rooms, laundry, and a 24-hour desk. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $15,000,000. Anticipated bid date is March 4, (TA Loving). Bureau of Mines Renovation: This full renovation will be done to accommodate offices and classrooms. The HVAC and electrical systems must be replaced, and accessibility addressed. Building was constructed in The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $6,000,000. Anticipated bid date is August 8, (Firms Selected-Interviews Underway). DH Hill Academic Success Center: This phased project renovates the 2nd and 3rd floors to create an Academic Student Success Center as well as an open study space in the library. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $9,300,000. Anticipated bid date is September 25, (Firm Selections Underway). Carmichael Renovation & Expansion: This project demolishes the existing 48,000 gross SF administration building and constructs an addition of approximately 82,800 gross SF. The addition will house student recreation spaces including fitness and functional training space, classrooms, and administrative offices. The addition will require renovations to approximately 1000 SF of the adjacent Carmichael Gym facility for accessibility and includes new fire suppression/alarm systems for about 343,000 GSF of the existing Carmichael Gym. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $45,000,000. Anticipated bid date is November 12, (Frank L. Blum) Bond Projects (Mentor Protégé Program) Engineering Building Oval: New Engineering Building on the Oval between EB-1 and Hunt Library to house Civil, Environmental and Industrial Engineering Departments and Dean's Office. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $137,000,000. Anticipated completion date is June 8, (Skanska) Mentor Protégé: Team Henry Plant Sciences Building: New Plant Sciences Building on Centennial Campus. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $150,600,000. Anticipated completion date is December 13, (DPR) Mentor Protégé: TBD Projects In Process CVM 3B Lab Renovation: This project will renovate the CVM Main Building Research Lab module 3B to accommodate discipline clustering in a more open and flexible layout. Renovations include wet lab renovation and write-up computational support areas with finish, building system, and casework upgrades. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $3,000,000. Anticipated completion date is June 5, Project delivery method is GC Single-Prime. CC Thermal Utilities & Infrastructure: This project will extend thermal utilities to the Monteith Research Center, College of Textiles, and the Textiles Innovation Center, which will provide utilities to heat, cool, and meet process needs. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $12,350,000. Anticipated completion date is May 30, Project delivery method is GC Single- Prime. ES King Village Roof Replacements-Ph 1: This phased project will add sloped roof structures to the existing ESKing Village residential buildings. The project will involve rework of exhaust, plumbing vents, and HVAC vents. This project includes design for all seventeen residential buildings through SD and roof replacement for 4 of those buildings. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $1,000,000. Anticipated completion date is August 26, Project delivery method is GC Single-Prime. Energy Performance Contracting #4: The project involves the expansion of the exiting boiler wing at the NC State Centennial Campus Utility Plant, along with the addition of a new Combined Heat and Power System. The project shall include, removal of existing duct-bank and manhole that interferes with the new building expansion, extend the building services to the new addition, and install new CHP equipment. Convert the existing No. 6 fuel oil system to No. 2 fuel oil, including pump replacement at the existing pump and piping replacement to the building. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $18,200,000. Anticipated completion date is November 16, Project delivery method is CMAR (DPR Construction). 9

Extension of Initiative Way: This project will install approximately 1500 linear feet of new, two-lane asphalt pavement from the current end point of Initiative Way at Oval Drive south to Blair Drive. The project will also include the installation of approximately 328 linear feet of two-lane road of Blair Drive east to connect with Centennial Parkway, with a box culvert over a small perennial stream. Pavement, curb and gutter, site lighting and landscaping is included in the project. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $1,850,000. Anticipated completion date is December 1, Project delivery method is GC Single-Prime. MRC Clean Room Renovation: The project will modify approximately 11,715 existing square feet to improve the controllability of space conditions for the first and second floor nano-fabrication cleanroom space in the MRC. Modifications to the HVAC systems and equipment will be made with regard to reliability, temperature, humidity control and capacity. Approximately 1,700 SF of new mechanical space will be constructed to house new HVAC equipment. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $7,900,000. Anticipated completion date is July 6, Project delivery method is CMAR (DPR Construction). Owen Hall Renovation: This project renovates Owen Hall, a four-story 69,200 GSF residence hall built in For each of the 196 rooms, renovations include sink replacement, painting, and door/lock replacement. Sink replacement will require minor wall repair and abatement work. Corridor and study area carpet replacement will also be done. The total project budget (construction, design, and miscellaneous project cost) is approximately $1,800,000. Anticipated completion date is July 28, Project delivery method is GC Single-Prime. 10
