1 GIRLS IN TECH SAN FRANCISCO POST EVENT REPORT HACKING FOR HUMANITY July 28 July 29, 2018

2 Objective In July , Girls in Tech San Francisco conducted a two-day unique hackathon to tackle global challenges. They teamed up with St. Anthony s of San Francisco, The San Francisco School Board and The San Francisco City Council to uncover solutions that would help strengthen the Social Enterprise sector in San Francisco. Participants were challenged to spark new ways to foster stronger collaborations and communications amongst people in the private, public and people sectors, and build a robust social marketplace to accelerate the growth of the Social sector.

3 Participants Over the course of two days, more than 128 members of the Girls in Tech San Francisco community assembled 22 teams. These teams were comprised of diverse men and women that are designers, developers and entrepreneurs ready to hear about the social issues within their community and develop viable solutions. These teams were then asked to tackle an issue that dealt with local San Francisco Bay issues that included, but not limited to; Homelessness, Economic Disparity, Education Disparity, Affordable Housing and Drug Abuse.

Food Forward - Nourish your Neighbor - Bridge Non-Profits to the People eme Getting right things to right people right now. Zpectrum Mindfully connecting at-risk individuals and families to resources so they can find the right help, faster. Circlet - Circlet allows you to pool money into your community to build resources and save for the future. SF School Finder - Provides families with a quick and accessible way to find the best public schools for them. Hackathon - An app to streamline and gamefy the volunteering process. Helper - Helper allows non-profit organizations to quickly reach willing volunteers in case of an emergency. Don8 All about giving a hand up to these in need. GiveHub - Community and API for charity organization needs and donors Alertify - Feel safe and connected with your community through Alertify. HelpR - Intuitive resource aggregator for both those looking for services and those looking to donate or volunteer The Givestry - Zola for charities We Pledge - Crowdsourcing for common causes SFUSD School Explorer Helping parents find the right schools for their needs Safe Family Every family should have a Family Preparedness Plan to reduce the stress of the unexpected. Easy Doc Text based medical services for poor people who can not afford smartphones or internet services. BigBear A game that makes volunteering a happy habit.

5 And the Winners Are The competition was fierce and the applications that these teams created were innovative, compassionate and pertinent but the judges could only pick the top 3 teams. 6 Post Event The Hackathon was a huge success and the feedback we received was positive and inspiring. Attendee Testimonials I really appreciated the theme on social issues and the insight from community partners. The culture was really nice and open! Loved the volunteers. I liked the location (great views) and the fact that it was mentioned at the very beginning that this was not to be a scary competition and that any intimidation or bad behavior was grounds for removal.
