3 To Register for any Classes: Contact your Supervisor or Program Manager who will register you through remote registration. Once Registered: Attend your assigned training session Arrive on time If you anticipate being tardy or leaving early from a class, you are required to contact the PDT Department and your Supervisor or Program Manager prior to the beginning of class. Arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to your training session If you arrive late without prior notification you will be denied access to class If you must cancel your registration You are required to provide immediate notice to your Supervisor or Program Manager and the PDT Department PLEASE NOTE: BAMSI has instituted a no-show notification procedure. If you fail to attend your scheduled trainings, it remains on your attendance history as a No Show note /No Call and your Program Managers will be notified. A refrigerator and microwave are available at most locations, if you prefer to bring your lunch. Otherwise, there are restaurants located in the area. 6 ORIENTATION PROGRAMS Day and Residential Divisions are required to complete BAMSI Orientation, DD/BI or MH/CBFS orientation, SIC, CPR and First Aid for their new employees. New employees who already have valid certification in CPR and/or First Aid do not need to attend the CPR/First Aid trainings. However, the PD &T Department requires a copy of their certification cards. 8 HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGER TRAINING Day and Residential Management Only LOCATION: 300 Battles Street, Brockton 9:30 a.m. 4:00p.m. Human Resource Manager Training is required for Day and Residential Management (new and promotional), Assistant Directors, Directors, DHSM, RN Supervisors and Lead Nurses. This course will introduce Management to numerous BAMSI systems and processes, i.e. Ceridian, Shiftboard, Benefits, Hiring process and the Training process. Lunch will be provided. NOTE: All Trainings are held at Residential Group Homes. The Adult Daily Living portion of the class introduces safe and practical skills needed to provide: ADL care Proper positioning for beds and wheelchairs Proper body mechanics Guidelines for specialized food preparation. The Signs & Symptoms portion of the class addresses: Assessment of physical conditions of persons served Recognition of important symptoms Timely reporting and follow-up The Vital Signs portion of the class reviews the monitoring of vital signs through hands-on training: Body temperature Radial pulse and respiratory rates Blood pressure PLEASE NOTE: Attending this training also meets the initial requirements for the Signs and Symptoms, and Vital Signs self-teaching packets. 8

10 COMBO CLASS ADULT CPR/AED & FIRST AID This option is offered to employees who wish to complete both of these required trainings in one day. This combo class is for employees seeking CPR/First Aid certification. In order to become certified, attendees are required to complete BOTH curriculums which are covered in this training. Early dismissal is not permitted. Wed, April 4, :30 a.m. 2:30 p.m. Wed, May 2, :30 a.m. 2:30 p.m. Wed, June 6, :30 a.m. 2:30 p.m. The CPR/AED portion of this course utilizes the National Safety Council curriculum and is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to keep a victim alive who may not be breathing or whose heart has stopped beating. Topics include responding to an emergency and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. CPR/AED certification is valid for two years. Be advised that bleach and latex is present in materials used. The FIRST AID portion of this course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and care for injury and sudden illness, to control bleeding, and to provide first aid treatment for muscle, joint and bone injuries. First Aid certification is valid for three years. PLEASE NOTE: Be advised that bleach and latex is present in materials used. 9

11 ADULT CPR/AED This course utilizes the National Safety Council curriculum and is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to keep a victim alive who may not be breathing or whose heart has stopped beating. Topics include responding to an emergency, intervention for choking, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. CPR/AED certification is valid for two years. Employees seeking re-certification may attend this class as well. 14 BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS Thurs, April 19, 2012 Thurs, May 10, 2012 Thurs, June 21, :30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. 9:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. 9:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. Basic constitutional rights protect each and every person living in the United States. Employees need to understand these rights for themselves so that they can effectively support and protect persons served. This training discusses constitutional rights, general human rights principles, the system for safeguarding human rights and abuse prevention, the role of an employee as a DPPC mandated reporter, and why these rights are a fundamental requirement in our work. PLEASE NOTE: This is the first of two required trainings for DD / Brain Injury employees who will be assigned as Human Rights Officers for their programs. HUMAN RIGHTS SYSTEM Thurs, April 19, 2012 Thurs, May 10, 2012 Thurs, June 21, :00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. 1:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. 1:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. PREREQUISITE: Basic Human Rights Each DDS funded program requires a Human Rights Officer who has successfully completed training. This workshop provides the framework of knowledge to safeguard individuals rights in the least restrictive way. The agenda for the training includes the six areas of inalienable rights; review of Chapter 5 of DDS regulations as it relates to the protection and promotion of individual rights; behavioral modification & human rights restrictions; responsibilities of the Human Rights Officer, Human Rights Coordinator and Human Rights Committee; case scenarios; and reporting procedures. PLEASE NOTE: This is the second of two required trainings for DD / Brain Injury employees who will be assigned as Human Rights Officers for their programs. 13

15 NVMAB NON-VIOLENT MANAGEMENT of AGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR LOCATION: 10 Christy s Drive, Bauman Conference Room The NVMAB program is a professional approach to managing the aggressive, agitated individual. NVMAB s concepts revolve first around prevention and second around management. To emphasize that most physical crisis can be prevented through appropriate psychological handling of pre-violent episodes. However, when violence does erupt, immediate action is essential for the safety of both persons served and staff. Both verbal and physical intervention skills will be taught. This training is required of all regular staff working with persons served who have a history of repeated violent, aggressive behaviors INITIAL NVMAB CLASS Successful completion of the training requires attendance of ALL 3 TRAINING DAYS, competent demonstration of physical skills and the successful completion of a brief written test, which will result in a one year Day 1: Tues, May 29, 2012 certification. 9:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Day 2: Wed, May 30, :30 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Day 3: Thurs, May 31, :30 a.m. 1:30 p.m. NVMAB REFRESHER For employees previously certified in NVMAB, the annual refresher course is a one day class. 16 NON-VIOLENT CRISIS INTERVENTION (CPI) TRAINING LOCATION: 10 Christy s Drive, Bauman Conference Room CPI is a respectful, noninvasive method to use in defusing escalating behavior and safely managing physically aggressive behavior. Participants learn proven strategies for preventing and resolving situations when confronted by anxious, hostile, or violent behavior. Prevention techniques emphasize verbal and non-verbal de-escalation skills as well as safety techniques. Participants who complete CPI training are certified for one year by the CPI, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, Association. The dates for Desktop Application Training Program are as follows: Microsoft Excel 2003 Tues, May 8, :30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. Learning objective of this program is to enable program participants to use Microsoft Office Excel to manage, edit, print and enhance spreadsheets with graphics and introductory formulas. Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 Thurs, June 14, :30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. Learning objective of this program is to enable participants with the ability to create effective basic PowerPoint presentations for delivery in front of an audience. Microsoft Word 2003 Wed, April 18, :30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. Learning objective of this program is to enable program participants to use Microsoft Office Word to create, edit and enhance standard business documents. Microsoft Outlook 2007 Thurs, June 28, :30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. Learning objective of this program is to enable program participants to use Microsoft Office Outlook to start sending and responding to , as well as maintaining the Calendar, scheduling meetings, and working with tasks and notes. Curriculum addresses telephone and face-to-face customer service skills, including: Assessing professionalism Managing angry customers Projecting a professional image Handling complaining individuals Diffusing telephone time-bombs Dealing with challenging individuals Conducting an effective inbound call Utilizing positive vocabulary that works BAMSI LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT TRAINING LOCATION: 10 Christy s Drive, Bauman Conference Room Please note: Each participant will receive a handbook as a reference tool. Tues, April 24, 2012 Mon, June 11, 2012 and and Fri, April 27, 2012 Thurs, June 14, 2012 Both classes will be held from 9:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Great leaders know that the success and sustainability of any enterprise is dependent upon an unrelenting commitment to self-evaluation, evolution and change. There can be no status quo. And so it is the same with leaders themselves. The curriculum for this workshop has been developed by Peeler Associates, who help employees in management positions enhance their leadership effectiveness, achieve their desired goals, and focus on what's most important.
