2 SAMPLE COURSE CROSSWALK TO CONNECTICUT HOME HEALTH AGENCIES Updated July 207 Relias Learning offers online learning, staff compliance training and continuing for post-acute care facilities (Assisted Living, Long-term Care, Skilled Nursing, Home Health, Hospice, and Rehabilitation organizations). Relias Learning Training Crosswalks are based on published accreditation standards. They are designed to assist organizations in the selection of courses from the Relias Learning libraries to ensure and demonstrate staff competence according to the training standards. General staff compliance trainings should be selected to ensure the organization meets OSHA and other regulatory requirements. Staff training is only one element of a successful survey and the crosswalks are not meant to take the place of a careful review and evaluation of your program to the accreditation standards. The courses listed in the crosswalk are a representative sample of courses available in Relias Learning libraries. It may not be necessary to choose all courses listed for a specific training standard; it is recommended that courses are chosen that closely align with the mission and services offered and the specific needs of the persons served. The following constitutes Relias Learning, LLC s recommendation of course work for each listed Crosswalk Measure. Relias Learning does not make any guarantee that such course(s) will be accepted by the accrediting body(ies). 2
3 Connecticut Home Health Agency Training Criteria These categories are based on 9.33: Licensure of Home Health Care Agencies The regulations below were originally published by the State of Connecticut, and can be found at: r_iv/9-33._home_health.pdf Orientation All staff Pursuant to 9-3- D7(a)(), an agency orientation policy for all employees must include but not be limited to review of the following: Note: The orientation dates, content, and name and title of the person providing the orientation must be documented in the employee's personnel folder. Organizational structure of the agency Agency patient care policies and procedures Philosophy of patient care Description of client population and geographic area served Agency personnel policies and job description Applicable state and federal regulations governing the delivery of home health care services 3

Pursuant to 9-3- D7(a)(), an agency orientation policy for all employees must include but not be limited to review of the following: Note: The orientation dates, content, and name and title of the person providing the orientation must be documented in the employee's personnel folder. Additional suggested orientation options for all staff: Bloodborne Pathogens Essentials HH Patients' Rights HIPAA: The Basics Infection Control: The Basics Preventing, Recognizing, and Reporting Abuse 0.75 Orientation Homemaker-home health aide Pursuant to 9-3- D69(d)(2)(S), any person who has been deemed to have completed a health aide training program must be provided with ten (0) hours of orientation by the agency of employment prior to the individual providing any health aide services. Orientation of the health aide in the home, to the patient, family and plan for care. 4
5 Orientation Homemaker-home health aide (cont.) Pursuant to 9-3- D69(d)(2)(S), any person who has been deemed to have completed a health aide training program must be provided with ten (0) hours of orientation by the agency of employment prior to the individual providing any health aide services. Additional options (7 hours), in addition to the 3 hours suggested previously for all staff: For additional/ alternative module options, refer to the module library Communicating with Older Adults with Dementia Communicating with the Hearing Impaired Electrical Safety in the Home Hand Hygiene: The Basics Hazardous Chemicals: The Basics Overview of the Aging Process.5 Safe Food Handling Survival Skills for Home Health Aides Understanding Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Workplace Safety: The Basics 5
6 Orientation Infusion staff Pursuant to 9-3- D72(b)()(G), infusion therapy may be provided to patients of a home health care agency provided regulations are followed and staff have staff applicable credentials and training necessary to perform infusion therapy. Credentials and training necessary to perform infusion therapy. 6 Annual In-Service All/applicable staff Pursuant to 9-3- D7(a)(2), agencies must have an inservice policy which provides an annual average of at least one () hour per month for each employee serving patients. The inservice must include current information regarding drugs and treatments; specific service procedures and techniques; recognized professional standards, criteria and classification of clients served. Agencies that employ health aides must ensure that health aides attend inservice sessions. The in-service program must be provided under the supervision of the supervisor of clinical service or a designated registered nurse who possesses a minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience, at least one () year of which must be in the provision of home health care. Agency-identified training
