2 / JULY 5 - JULY 27 This four-week summer program is open to young men from the 6th & 7th grades who desire to sharpen their academic skills and develop their leadership potential. Mornings consist of academic study, including TACHS prep for students entering the 8th grade in September. The afternoons are dedicated to recreation: athletics & activities. 3 April 2018 Brother Alumni and Friends: It is my pleasure to welcome you to our Alumni Reunion Dinner. As we gather for this annual event to relive fond memories and rekindle friendships, we are filled with gratitude for the years, experience and blessing that is Cathedral. Honoring all alumni this night, we give special recognition to those celebrating their 50th & 25th anniversaries. We also highlight the accomplishments of two of our esteemed alumni who will receive Cathedral s highest honor, the Immaculata Award: Reverend Kevin Sweeney, `88 and Mr. Robert Podzius, `70. Both of them have shown, since their days as students at Cathedral to the present, a love, loyalty and pride for Alma Mater. Proud of our past, excited about our present and looking forward to our future, I thank each of you for joining us this evening and for all that you do to help Cathedral in its mission to form men for greatness. 4 Father Kevin Sweeney Father Kevin Sweeney grew up in St. Luke s parish, Whitestone. He attended Cathedral from After graduation, Kevin entered Cathedral Seminary House of Formation (Douglaston) and studied at St. John s University, receiving a B.A. in Philosophy in He then entered the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington and received a M.Div. in Theology. During his time at the Seminary in Huntington, Kevin spent a Pastoral Year at St. Agatha s (Brooklyn). On June 28, 1997, Fr. Sweeney was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Brooklyn by Bishop Thomas Daily. Fr. Sweeney was assigned as parochial vicar to the parish of St. Nicholas of Tolentine (Jamaica) and then Our Lady of Sorrows (Corona). In 2004, Fr. Sweeney was named by Bishop DiMarzio as the Vocation Director. During his time as Vocation Director, under the direction of Bishop DiMarzio and with the assistance of Msgr. Vincent Keane, serving as Spiritual Director, Fr. Sweeney served as the first Director of the (St.) Pope John Paul II House of Discernment. In January of 2010, Fr. Sweeney was assigned as the pastor of St. Michael s Parish in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, where he continues to serve.

5 Robert Podzius Robert Podzius attended Cathedral from After attending Douglaston for a year, Bob graduated from Pace University - Lubin School of Business with a BBA, Finance / Accounting. He began his Finance career in New York at CBS Publishing, then Philips Consumer Products, and eventually moved to California in 1985 to become Director of Finance at Plessey Semiconductors, and held several senior level management positions in Silicon Valley technology companies. He joined Apple in 2000 and was appointed Director of Finance for the Americas, with Financial responsibility for Apple s Supply Chain, Logistics and Distribution for the entire Americas, spending extensive time in China. He retired from Apple at the end of 2011, after contributing significantly to Apple s meteoric rise to the top of the business world. During his almost 30 years in California, Bob was extremely active in his local Church communities, leading Parish Councils, Finance Councils, Eucharistic Ministry, teaching High School Religious Education, heading up fundraising activities for Church construction, and coaching basketball. Since retiring from Apple and moving to Northern Virginia, Bob has been extensively volunteering within the small business and Veterans community in the DC area, assisting Veterans in achieving their entrepreneurial goals after military life. Recently, Bob stepped in and filled a need at Cathedral by supplying ipads to all the classrooms to help Cathedral furnish its students with the best education possible. He also established the Podzius Family Scholarship, in memory of his late brother John, Class of 66. Bob has stated on several occasions that he believes in Cathedral s mission to produce Men of Greatness and believes the school graduates men who contribute to their local community in so many ways. Bob embodies his philosophy that in life, one should give of his time, talents, and treasury. His generous support and personal investment in the lives of Cathedral students have provided resources to further enhance the education of today and tomorrow s Crusaders. Bob lives in Northern Virginia with Betty, his wife of almost 43 years. He has 3 children, all successful attorneys, two living in Virginia and one in Manhattan.

6 Our Mission Founded as a preparatory high school in 1914, Cathedral is also a seminary; a place where boys could be comfortable discerning a vocation to the diocesan priesthood at a young age. For over 100 years Cathedral has stayed faithful to its mission: to form the mind in the ways of academic excellence and the heart and soul in the ways of heroic virtue and belief. Our School Proud to call over 4750 men graduates, the program at Cathedral continues to offer the young men of Kings and Queens Counties as well as from the outlying areas, a personalized, superior education in an environment where growth in maturity and grace are encouraged and fostered. Keenly aware that both the Church and society need strong, dedicated leaders, Cathedral is determined to stay faithful to forming men as gifted thinkers and as generous servants. Whether our graduates don the vestments of pastoral service as priests or deacons or devote themselves to caring for an individual family, a young man who experiences the Cathedral spirit will be ready and willing to be a man for greatness.
