4 Tips and FAQs What do we need to know about Girl Scout events? Girl Scout events are designed to help girls at all levels discover new things, connect with other girls, and take action in their communities. The final result girls gain leadership skills without even knowing it. About our events: All Girl Scouts of the Commonwealth of Virginia (GSCV) sponsored events are fun, interactive, held to the highest standards, and developed to meet the needs of all girls. Events are facilitated by staff, volunteers, community partners, and/or girls. Girl Scout troops have the opportunity to participate in a variety of fun, engaging, and educational events together. Girls can also choose to make new friends by attending individually with an adult chaperone. What are the best events to attend? It all starts with the girl. Make sure to include girls in the process. Discuss their personal tastes and preferences, check schedules, and review costs and then let the girls choose. This is the girl-led process in action. When does registration open? Saturday, August 11 at 11:59pm When does registration close? If space is still available, and unless noted otherwise, registration will close one week prior to the start date of an event. 4

Do Girl Scout volunteers need to be registered members? Adults volunteering at Girl Scout events are required to be registered with Girl Scouts of the USA as an adult member. Safety is our number one priority. We can ensure the safety of all Girl Scouts and Girl Scout volunteers only when adults become registered members and complete the required background check. What is expected of troop leaders and adults who attend? Troop leaders are responsible for obtaining permission slips and for meeting Safety Activity Checkpoints adult-to-girl ratios for the event. Attending adults are expected to assist the event staff and girls as needed and to ensure appropriate girl behavior. How many adults can we bring to overnight events? Bed space is limited. Troops should only register the required number of adults to meet Safety Activity Checkpoints. 9 The Girl Scout Cookie Program As Troop Leaders, you know the Girl Scout Cookie Program is the most popular activity, and for good reason. When a Girl Scout participates in the Girl Scout Cookie Program, she s doing more than handing customers a package of cookies. She s creating a plan, interacting with clients, and working as part of a team. She s building a lifetime of skills and confidence. GSUSA research shows successful troops have a Troop Cookie Manager to support the Troop Leader during the cookie program. Bring your Troop Cookie Manager to training in December to ensure your girls are prepared to set and achieve their goals.
