They are scheduled to visit us on Wednesday, August 24, Time: TBD Let s welcome them to Hollin Hall for some engaging and planned activities in August. Stay Tuned! step up, stand up, speak up HOLLIN HALL SENIOR CENTER LOGO CONTEST! HHSC is sponsoring a logo contest for the very first time! What is a logo? A logo is a graphic mark, emblem, or symbol commonly used by commercial enterprises, organizations and even individuals to aid and promote instant public recognition. Logos are either purely graphic (symbols/icons) or are composed of the name of the organization (a logotype or wordmark). Think about what HHSC means to you. Of the fourteen senior centers in Fairfax County, we are the only senior center that is 100% volunteer run and has been for the past 33 years! That is only a piece of what makes us so unique. So take some time to design a graphic or emblem that would represent what HHSC is all about. You may or hand deliver your entry to Julie Ellis, Director. For more information, stop by the main office. Thanks! Free Library coming to HHSC and A CHILD S PLACE! To promote literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchanges worldwide and to build a sense of community as we share skills, creativity and wisdom across generations. There are nearly 40,000 Little Free Library book exchanges around the world, bringing curbside literacy home and sharing millions of books annually. We will share the library with the kids! One part will be for the senior center and the other half will be for the youth. BRING A BOOK-TAKE A BOOK! Check it out! It will be in the Main Foyer of our center! QUICK Tidbits FOR CENTER VOLUNTEERS, CLUB LEADERS: All center volunteers are representing Fairfax County Government, Neighborhood and Community Services and our center-hollin Hall Senior Center. Dress in appropriate attire that is presentable, in good business taste and clothing appropriate to the volunteer role. Thank you!

Dance for Parkinson's is offered at the Hollin Hall Senior Center through Bowen McCauley Dance. BMD is the only dance company in the Metropolitan-DC area to provide Dance for PD-free weekly dance classes for people with Parkinson Disease and their care-partners. Lucy Bowen McCauley, BMD s Artistic Director and founder, is honored to bring dance to people with this disease. Besides the health benefits, dance takes the mind and spirit away from the thoughts of disease, disability and social isolation. Dance for PD originated with the Brooklyn (N.Y.) Parkinson Group and the Mark Morris Dance Group. At the invitation of MMDG and PFNCA, McCauley received training and certification in March 2008 to teach these fun and innovative classes. (For more information about the program, visit the official Dance for PD web site at When participating in the dance program, people with the disease report a decrease in physical symptoms and improved psychological and emotional benefits. One participant taking the class simply stated, I lose my symptoms when I m there. Parkinson s Disease Support Group meets at Hollin Hall every 1 st Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Room. Dance for PD meets the other Wednesdays throughout the month at 1 p.m. in Room. NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO DANCE FOR PD DURING THE MONTHS OF JULY AND AUGUST, BUT WILL RESUME THEIR NORMAL SCHEDULE IN SEPTEMBER.
