You should review your current health and prescription drug choices each Fall to determine if your current coverage is still best for your needs. You alternately laugh and tear up at the most honest moments, and when it s over, you feel a sort of renewed sense of what matters. A conversation with Berg on writing proves to be much the same. Her pure energy for the act of putting words to the page is so genuine, so real, you find yourself hoping it might transmit through the phone and settle comfortably in the creative region of your brain, where it might fix itself a cup of cocoa and stay awhile. 10 26 Seasonal Flu remains more of a threat to older adults than to the general population. It is recommended that all older adults get their seasonal flu vaccine. In addition to that, please note our policy at Hollin Hall: Wash your hands thoroughly Wash your hands frequently When soap and water are unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand gel cleaner Avoid close contact with others that are sick If YOU are sick stay at home for an additional 3 days after being sick Have a cold? Sneeze into your arm not your hand. Carry tissues Wash your hands constantly Neighborhood and Community Services Inclement Weather Policy REVISED 2013 When Fairfax County Public Schools cancel classes for the day: Senior Programs and Senior Centers: All senior programs, activities and events, including lunch and transportation by FASTRAN at all senior centers are cancelled. Hollin Hall Senior Center will open for resource and weather emergency information. Please call the center before leaving your home for updated center information and possible cancellations: When Fairfax County Public Schools have a delayed opening: Senior Programs and Senior Centers: Senior centers will be open. There will be no transportation by FASTRAN and no lunch service at sites served by Fairfax County Public Schools. Activities prior to 10:00 am are cancelled. Other activities and classes may also be cancelled. Please call the center before leaving your home for updated center information and possible cancellations: When Fairfax County Public Schools have early release: Senior Programs and Senior Centers: All afternoon senior programs, activities and events are cancelled at the senior centers beginning at noon. Senior Centers will remain open. Lunch will

11 27 be served as early as possible. If participants have been brought by FASTRAN, they will be picked up at noon. If participants have not yet been picked up from their homes when an early release is announced, FASTRAN is cancelled for the day. No Sign Up 9:30 a.m. For additional new classes, Check out the Computer Board across from the SCAN DESK The wireless network is available in rooms, 218, and 215 but the signal might bleed into other nearby areas. Use of the Wi-Fi is only available 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday The wireless access at Hollin Hall Senior Center for Creative Retirement is no different than what one would get at Starbucks or Panera s. So come in, enjoy a cup of joe or some hot tea in The Gathering Place while navigating the web or liking us on Facebook.

13 29 Hollin Hall Clubhouse These clubs meet at Hollin Hall Senior Center: Mount Vernon Genealogical Society (MVGS) The Library in room 214 is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10 a.m. 2 p.m. The General Meeting is on the 3 rd Tuesday of the month in room. On that day, the library is open from 10 a.m. 12:30 p.m. Visit them on the web at Mount Vernon House & Garden Club This group meets from September to May. They host knowledgeable speakers and fun trips on the 2 nd Wednesday of the month from 9:30 a.m. 12 noon in room 218. Mount Vernon Antique Club A fascinating group with interesting programs meeting every 3 rd Wednesday in room 216 at 9:30 a.m. They host a varied group of speakers and also have an intermediate version of Show and Tell! Mount Vernon AARP Chapter 3198 Meeting on the first Friday of the month from September to June, this club supports the National AARP and promotes the well-being of our community and members. Alexandria Ikebana International- A minimalistic Japanese style of flower arranging club meets the first Wednesday of the month (September, October, November, February, March, April, May) at 9:30 a.m. in Room. Mount Vernon Quilters Unlimited- General meetings are held on the 2 nd and 4 th Tuesday of the month, Room at 12:30 p.m. and in Room 216 on the 1 st and 3 rd Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. for Quilt Bees.
