The event, which will include a Bake Sale, Raffle and Silent Auction will be open to the public. Anyone wishing to donate baked goods for the bake sale please contact Bonnie ( ) or Charlene ( ). The raffle and silent auction will feature donated hand-made items --a homemade quilt, a handmade afghan, a Stocking Stuffer Basket and a Maine Theme Basket. The tickets will be sold for $1.00 or 6 for $5.00. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the Community Center beginning October 18th during the Crafter s Club (Wednesdays 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.). 4 Community Center Activities Painting Group Mondays 9:00 a.m. Work on your next masterpiece. Bring your own supplies. ALL ability levels are encouraged and welcomed. Make some new friends and create something beautiful! Exercise Classes Mondays 1:00 p.m. This class, instructed by Andrew, focuses on using resistance bands and bodyweight exercises to gain strength, flexibility and balance. We provide resistance bands that range from 2-5 pounds of weight. If you already have your own resistance bands, please feel free to bring them. There will be no class on Monday November 6th (Mystery Lunch) or Monday November 13th (Instructor away). Tuesdays 10:30 a.m. This class, taught by Hillcrest resident Hilda, is a low impact workout that uses weights for strength training, towels for stretching, and plastic plates for a zumba routine to increase strength and cardiovascular endurance. Thursdays 11:00 a.m. This class, taught by Hillcrest resident Denise, is a low impact cardio workout set to some rockin good music. This class incorporates everyday household items to help you increase strength, stamina and cardiovascular endurance. There will be no class on Thursday November 9th (Veterans Breakfast) or Thursday November 23rd (Thanksgiving). Afternoon Bridge Mondays 2:00 p.m. Calling all bridge players!!!! We would like to invite you to join us on Monday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. at the Community Center for an afternoon of Bridge. All levels are encouraged and welcomed. Game Night Mondays 6:00 p.m. Gather around the table and enjoy board games and card games with friends. Playing cards, cribbage boards and some board games are provided. Bring your favorite game if you want to!!! Bible Study Tuesdays 3:00 p.m. Would you like to participate in a Bible discussion? You are invited to come to an inspiring, informative time discussing the Word of God led by Hillcrest resident Bill Wallace, Artist/Teacher. Your thoughts and questions are certainly welcome. Crafter s Club Wednesdays 1:00 p.m. Attention crafters!! Bring your craft down to the Community Center and join an amazing group. The club meets Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. Come with ideas and projects to share. Even if you cannot attend regularly, drop in when you can. All skill levels are welcome. Bingo Thursdays 6:30 p.m. Come and join the fun of Winner Take All Bingo. Each Bingo sheet costs $1.00 and comes with 12 cards. Play as many cards per game as you like. All cards are on paper so bring your daubers. No Bingo on Thursday November 23rd (Thanksgiving).
5 Community Center Activities Neighbor to Neighbor Coffee and Doughnuts Saturday November 4th 10:00 a.m. Enjoy FREE coffee and doughnuts with friends and neighbors at the Community Center. This is a great way to meet new friends and get to know your neighbors! Lunch and Learn Tuesday November 14th 11:30 a.m. Join DeeDee from Amedisys Home Health Care for a FREE blood pressure screening, lunch and presentation on the health issues that are important to you. Each month will feature a different topic. November s discussion will focus on Shingles. Please register with Andrew by Friday November 10th. Community Meal Prep Friday November 10th 2:00 p.m. Join the group on Friday November 10th as we get prepared for another wonderful Community Meal. We will need help with setting up the Community Center and preparation of food for the community meal. This is a great way to get involved in our community. Veterans Club Friday November 3rd 1:00 p.m. Hillcrest Community Center Veterans, please join us at our monthly Veterans Club at Hillcrest and Pinecrest. Our goal is to foster a relaxed fellowship of Veterans. We will talk shop, and play pool and card games, plan outings and pass along information regarding veterans benefits and opportunities. 8 Community Bus Trips Hillcrest Retirement Community and Pinecrest Manufactured Housing Community Bus Whether you are an independent driver or not, all residents are welcome and encouraged to join us on our community bus. The 14 passenger wheelchair accessible bus travels to various destinations for fantastic outings and weekly shopping trips. We offer door to door service and will pick you up at your house and bring you home after. All transportation is FREE. Registration is required as space can be limited. Please see the calendar for when registration begins each month. Mystery Lunch A-Monday November 6th 11:00 a.m. B-Tuesday November 7th 11:00 a.m. C-Wednesday November 8th 11:00 a.m. Venture out to the great unknown for lunch. As you board the bus for this monthly outing, sit back and relax as the driver brings you to a mystery location for lunch. The location is a mystery, but a good time is guaranteed. Because this trip is so popular, we do three separate trips each month. We may or may not go to the same restaurant each trip, but that s the fun of a Mystery Lunch. When you sign up you have the option of picking which day you would like to attend. Please remember that you may sign up for only one of the Mystery Lunches per month to save room for your neighbors! Preble St. Soup Kitchen Wednesday November 29th 9:45 a.m. Help out at the Preble Street Soup Kitchen! The mission of Preble Street is to provide accessible barrier-free services to empower people experiencing problems with homelessness, housing, hunger, and poverty and to advocate for solutions to these problems. Part of Preble Street s commitment to meeting people s basic needs include operating three soup kitchens in Portland that serve a combined 1,200 meals a day. Volunteering in the Resource Center soup kitchen includes helping with the preparation, service, and cleanup of a meal. Kitchen staff is present the entire time to provide guidance and support in the tasks that need to be completed for that meal.
9 Community Bus Trips A Christmas Story: The Musical Portland Players Theater South Portland, ME Thursday November 30th 6:30 p.m. Join the fun as the bus travels to the Portland Players Theater for their next production of the 2017/2018 season, A Christmas Story: The Musical. Back by popular demand! Ralphie Parker only wants one thing for Christmas: An Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action 200-shot Range Model Air Rifle. A Christmas Story, The Musical is the hilarious account of Ralphie s desperate quest to ensure that this most perfect of gifts ends up under his tree this Christmas. This new musical is based on the classic 1983 movie, which was based upon stories by legendary radio humorist Jean Shepard. Full of holiday wonder and laughter, A Christmas Story: The Musical is sure to delight both children and grown-ups alike! Tickets are just $5.00 (to be paid to the theater at the time of the show) for this special preview showing. Scarborough Library Thursday November 2nd 1:00 p.m. Tuesday November 21st 1:00 p.m. Come along as we travel to the Scarborough Public Library twice a month. While at the library you will be able to browse the latest new releases or go back in time to one of your favourites. The Scarborough Library also offers a selection of large print and audio books, movies and computers with Internet access. Oxford Casino Tuesday November 28th 8:30 a.m. Hop on the bus for some wicked good fun as we travel up Route 26 to the Oxford Casino. While there, you will be able to try your luck at 850 action-packed slot machines and tables. After spending the morning playing the one-armed bandits, you can enjoy lunch at the in house restaurant or cafe. The bus will begin picking you up at your house at 8:30 a.m. We will leave the casino by 1:30 p.m. Transportation is FREE. Target Monday November 20th 9:00 a.m. Time to pick up those odds and ends again. This time we are going to the local Target store in South Portland.
10 Community Bus Trips Shopping Trips Sit back and relax as the Hillcrest bus picks you up at your door and takes you to various stores throughout the month. After shopping, help is provided to carry your bags into the house. Errands Thursday November 16th 9:00 a.m. Thursday November 30th 9:00 a.m. Let us help you run some of those pesky errands. We offer transportation twice a month. If you need to go to the pharmacy, bank, to a doctor s appointment or even to get a haircut, please give us a call ( ) and schedule your ride with Andrew. Errands for the month of December will be on Thursday December 14th and Thursday December 28th. Weekly Grocery Shopping Fridays 9:00 a.m.* Hop on the bus every Friday and go to Hannaford for your weekly grocery shopping needs. Make sure you do not forget, we also can carry your bags into the house for you if you would like us to! *Shopping will be on Thursday November 9th at 1:00 p.m. And Tuesday November 21st at 9:00 a.m. Market Basket Thursday November 30th 1:00 p.m. Sit back and relax as we take away the hassle of driving to Biddeford to shop at the only Market Basket in Maine. Wal-Mart Monday November 6th 9:00 a.m. Let us do the driving to the local Wal-Mart for all your shopping needs. Farmers Market & Trader Joes Wednesday November 1st 9:00 a.m. Get ready! It s time to head to Monument Square and check out the Farmers Market. While at the market you will be able to find the freshest produce and flowers from local farmers. After the Farmers Market, we will go to Trader Joes to finish your shopping needs. Free Range Fish Market and Micucci Grocery Tuesday November 7th 9:00 a.m. The first stop of the day will be on the waterfront to pick up some of the freshest seafood around at Free Range Fish Market. The next stop will be Micucci Grocery for some of the finest imported Italian Foods. Walking Maine Mall Wednesdays 8:00 a.m. Join us as we take a mid-week walk at the Maine Mall in South Portland. Our walks last approximately 45 min and you go at your own pace. Due to the Farmers Market, walking on November 1st will be at 1:00 p.m. No Walking on November 22nd. Christmas Tree Shop Thursday November 2nd 9:00 a.m. Find affordable furniture, home decor, and kitchen essentials at our local Christmas Tree Shop. Shop a variety of great products for any time of the year.
11 Community Bus Trips Movie Theater Wednesday November 15th Time to be Determined We will travel to a local movie theater for an afternoon at the movies. Andrew will contact you on Monday November 13th with a selection of movies playing and what time the bus will be picking you up. Please be aware, because not all movies have the same start time, there may be a short wait either before or after your movie. Big 20 Bowling Thursday November 16th 12:45 p.m. Time to lace up those bowling shoes!! We will be heading down Route One to bowl at The Big 20. The Big 20 is a classic New England style candlepin bowling alley. We will receive a special rate of just $5.00/person (pay at Big 20) for two strings of bowling and shoe rentals. Bowlers of ALL levels are welcome to join the fun. A Christmas Carol: The Musical Lyric Music Theater South Portland, ME Thursday November 16th 6:30 p.m. Join the fun as the bus whisks you away to the theater just off Broadway for an evening of musical theater. The Lyric Music Theater proudly presents A Christmas Carol: The Musical From the creators of Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid comes a holiday classic. Ebenezer Scrooge is a prosperous curmudgeon who believes that personal wealth is far more valuable than the happiness and comfort of others, with an infuriated "Bah! Humbug!" Scrooge summates his feelings of Christmas tidings and charitable giving, but he's forced to face his selfish ways when three ghosts on Christmas Eve lead him through his Past, Present and Future. Breakfast Club Tuesday November 14th 8:00 a.m. Join us and enjoy a delicious breakfast and meet some new friends. This month, the Breakfast Club will be going to Cracker Barrel in South Portland.
12 Snow Removal Services If you wish to have State Manufactured Homes plow and shovel, please call Bud at the office ( ) or him at to sign up. If you were signed up last year, you must sign up again for this year. Our services include plowing, and can include shoveling a path to the front door (please note: does not and cannot include shoveling the entire deck), shoveling a path to your fuel tank, and shoveling a path to your shed. Depending on the severity of the storm, paths to the fuel tank and shed may not get done until the following day. In order for us to shovel, you be signed up for plowing services. The office will mail you an invoice the first week of each month for the previous month s charges. Remember, just because you were signed up last year, doesn t mean you are signed up for this year. You must call or the office and be added to the list. Please sign up by Friday November 10th.
