If you are considering a library career, and you are at least 16 years old, then you may want to apply for our paid summer internship. The commitment is 111 hours worked during June and July. The hours may vary from week to week and will include at least two Saturdays, June 4 and July 30. Applications are available at the library and must be returned to the library no later than 8:00 p.m. on March 28. Applications will be reviewed the week of March 28 with those selected for an interview notified no later than April 8. Questions about the position should be directed to Karen Drevo at Poetry Contest Enter up to two poems of no more than 16 lines each in our poetry contest. Winning entries will be published in May s library newsletter. All poems will be on display during National Library Week, April Entry forms are available at the library, and submissions of original, previously unpublished work will ONLY be accepted at the library through the deadline of April 6. 3 Upcoming Programs Bread or Death: A Holocaust Survivor s Story Monday, March 21 6:30 p.m. Milton Mendel Kleinberg s story is a rarelyseen Holocaust survivor s story. Through great sacrifices by his mother, he managed to survive the worst atrocities in human history by escaping from Nazioccupied Poland. From the long journey in a cattle car to Russia, to the train ride to Uzbekistan, he survived separation, abandonment and hunger, even time in German Displaced Persons camps at war s end. Kleinberg has begun speaking about his Holocaust experience and is dedicated to carrying on the memory of the Holocaust for future generations to better understand what happened so that it never happens again. His book, Bread or Death: Memories of My Childhood During and After the Holocaust, will be for sale following the program. Milton M. Kleinberg is Chairman and CEO of Senior Market Sales, Inc., an Omaha-based insurance marketing company that provides insurance solutions for an aging America. Library programs are free and offer something interesting for everyone! 4 Recent News Unique Display Carl Beck of Norfolk shared an interesting display with us in February. Starting at the age of 60, he created 12 pictures made out of feathers. The idea came to him from a wedding present made in Germany and given to his parents nearly 100 years ago. Many patrons have commented on the wonderful display. The library is especially thankful to Mr. Beck and to all those who keep our display cases full of unique and interesting collections. Upcoming Programs Spanish Computer Classes March 3, 8, 10, 15 & 17 5:30 8:00 p.m. Office These free classes will be taught in Spanish in the library s computer lab. March 26 1:30 p.m. Audrey Michel Norfolk native Audrey Michel will appear at the library to discuss her new book, Rewired Life: A Journey to Untangle Chronic Pain and Endometriosis. Michel used alternative forms of healing to overcome her pain and is now free from it. She is eager to share her inspirational story of hope and healing. Copies of her book will be available to purchase following the presentation. 4

5 Youth Programs LAPSIT: Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. For infants through age two with a caregiver, this program is a fun way to begin library visits and literary experiences. Come learn new rhymes, songs and baby games while listening to stories and meeting other families with young children. (Note: There will be no Lapsit the weeks of March 6 & March 13.) STORYTIME: Thursdays at 1:30 p.m., Fridays at 10:30 a.m. and Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. For children age three through grade two, this is a fun combination of literature including books, songs, Spanish language experiences, storytelling, finger plays, poems, puppets and MORE! Caregivers are encouraged to attend with children. (Note: There will be no Storytime the weeks of March 6 & March 13.) GOLDEN SOWER BOOK CLUB: Monday, March 28, at 4:00 p.m. This is a special book club for kids ages 8-12 whose reading selections come from titles nominated for the Golden Sower Award, Nebraska s Children s Choice Literary Award. This month s book is Darling, Mercy Dog of World War I by Alison Hart and Michael G. Montgomery. YOUNG ADULT BOOK GROUP (Y.A.B.G.): Saturday, March 12, at 2:30 p.m. This book club is designed for teens. This month s book is Gone by Michael Grant. This is a wonderful opportunity for avid readers to connect with local writers. 6

LIVE TRIVIA NIGHT AT THE VERANDA: Tuesday, March 8, at 7:00 p.m. The trivia is led by Librarian Quizmasters and takes place at the Veranda at Divots. Teams of 1-4 players are invited to test their knowledge against other teams for a chance to win a $40 gift card to Divots. Live Trivia is free to play and lots of fun! TUESDAY NIGHT BOOK CLUB: March 29 at 6:30 p.m. For Adults. This month s book is The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George. WEDNESDAY MORNING BOOK CLUB: March 30 at 10:00 a.m. For Adults.
