Everyone praised his pleasant personality and his willingness to provide extra servies when pressing needs arise. 4 .. The President's Offie Leo Goodman-Malamuth II Governors State University 312/534-5 University Park, IL 6466 May 15, 1987 Dear Friends and Colleagues: In my most reent Report to the Region I have listed a number of reasons why it is important that the State of Illinois inrease funding for eduation. In so doing, I have explained the need for a tax inrease in order to improve the finaning of eduation in our state. If you have not read the Report, I urge you to do so as soon as it is onvenient. As part of the effort to inrease the number of dollars whih our state invests in eduation, I urge you to write to our area legislators to enourage them to support the inreased funding for eduation whih is ontained in Governor James Thompson's proposal for tax hanges. I realize, of ourse, that tax inreases are not popular; however, the future health of our eduational systems demand that all itizens of our state make neessary ommitments today. I hope you will agree with me in this assessment. On the reverse are the names and addresses of several legislators from our region. Simply write them that "I support Governor Thompson's proposed tax inrease as a means of improving funding for eduation," sign your name and address, and mail as soon as possible. Your effort in this regard is very important to the future of Governors State University, and to all other publi f n eduational institutions in Illinois. J Qi Dr. Leo Goodman-Malamuth President
