3 FROM THE CEO AND BOARD CHAIR Greetings! As we look back on the 2016 fiscal year, we are grateful for the hard work of our dedicated American Red Cross volunteers and employees, as well as the compassionate support of our generous donors. And we are proud of all that we accomplished together. When devastating floods impacted 33 counties in the spring and tornadoes ripped through North Mississippi days before Christmas, Mississippi Red Cross workers were there. Together with our partner organizations and shared resources from other Red Cross regions, we made sure families had what they needed to begin to put their lives back together. Throughout these disasters, generous donors from across the region stepped in to help fund the response and recovery efforts and provide volunteer assistance. Throughout the 2016 fiscal year, people across Mississippi including neighbors who took the time to get involved and our partners worked side-by-side with the Red Cross to deliver critical assistance when it was needed most. Together, we kept our commitment to a thriving community. As you read through this report, you will learn about the services and programs your local Red Cross has provided. To all of you who shared your time, talents and resources to support the Red Cross, on behalf of those we serve, my heartfelt thanks. Ivy Lavell Williams The American Red Cross helps people in need every single day, not just during large scale disasters. We are deeply grateful to our donors and volunteers who selflesslyy support our work so together we can be there providing people in crisis with relief for today and hope for tomorrow. Marty McMahan In Grateful Appreciation, Ivy Lavell Williams, CEO Mississippi Region Marty McMahan, Chair Regional Leadership Council American Red Cross 1

4 YOU MAKE IT POSSIBLE HIGHLIGHTS FROM 2016 Collected 9,286 units of blood from 4,285 people Mississippi Red Cross workers responded to 1,753 residential home fires 2 American Red Cross

5 The American Red Cross of Mississippi provides vital services 365 days a year from responding to home fires in local neighborhoods to teaching first aid and CPR to collecting vital blood and blood products. We re able to provide these services thanks to an amazing corps of over 2,000 volunteers and the generosity of donors like you. Bringing the Red Cross Mission to Life Home fires are the most common disaster for the Red Cross. On average, we respond to a home fire every 2 days. Although these fires don t typically make the headlines, they are devastating for those who have suddenly lost their homes, possessions and sense of security. We also teach families, organizations and corporations how to be prepared for emergencies through free educational presentations. Last year, 1,317 people attended community disaster education and preparedness programs presented by the Mississippi Region. HIGHLIGHTS FROM 2016 Installed 5,603 free smoke alarms for the Home Fire Campaign Served more than 20,891 meals and snacks after disasters Provided 25,053 services to military members, veterans and their families American Red Cross 3

7 Across the County This past year, we successfully supported large, national disasters by lending a hand to other states in need. Many Mississippi volunteers answered the call of duty and deployed to disasters outside of Mississippi. The Red Cross has the ability to quickly mobilize the power of our volunteer forces. We do this because we are dedicated and focused on our humanitarian mission.
