Subcommittee Updates Faith Based/Community and Other Volunteers Sector Charlie Crawford ESAR VHP/MRC Coordinator,

2 ADPH CEP: The 2012 ADPH Volunteer Symposium will be held Tuesday June 12, 2012 at the Montgomery Renaissance Hotel in Montgomery Alabama. The theme for the conference is: Recovery, Resiliency, and Hope after Disaster. Featured speakers will be Russell Friedman, Executive Director of The Grief Recovery Institute in Sherman Oaks, California with topic The Grief Recovery Method, Tommy Dockery with ADPH with A Survivor s Story of Hope, Louise Sattler, Owner Signing Families Los Angeles, California with Effective Strategies to Engage, and Communicate with Special Populations During a Disaster and Andrew Lee, RN DCH Regional Medical Center, survivor of the April 27, 2011 Tornado Event Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Continuing education credit hours for Nurses, Social Workers, EMTs, Paramedics, LPCs, and Substance Abuse Counselors will be applied for but have not been set at this time. There is no cost to attend this training and lunch will be provided. For more information, please call or Tommy Dockery Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Public Health Area 3 ADPH Highlights from lessons learned from April 2011 Tornadoes and areas of focus for emergency planning: Rebuilding of Infrastructure priority, Effective communications, MRC s in place well before an event and multi benefits of utilizing the Forestry Division during an event. Healthcare/Operational Planning/Pharmacy Issues Jane Reeves Nurse Manager, ADPH CEP Overview of the recent Mass Causality Assessments It is important for facilities to complete the annual assessment. For some grants, questions on the assessment are used to establish priority if grant funds are limited. Changes to the assessment will occur in correlation with grant changes/requirements. ARRTC training courses continue; encourage medical facility staff to participate in this free standardized training. More Training and Exercise Planning Jora White Training Coordinator, ADPH CEP; POD Patient History Forms Training for nurses and EP coordinators will be held on 4/27/2012. The ADPH Bureau of Professional and Support Services is in the process of securing a UAB intern to assist in the Just In Time training for overall Emergency Preparedness and Strategic National Stockpile training. Training modules will be housed on adph.org/cep. John Hooper CRI and HSEEP Coordinator, ADPH CEP Upcoming CRI events The Cities Readiness Initiative (CRI) Rockets Throughput Drill has been scheduled for Thursday, June 7, 2012 This drill is a partnership with Georgia Tech University, CDC, ADPH and the CRI Counties, and

3 will help determine the actual throughput of a standard POD setup. A POD setup drill will be done in conjunction with this drill. The exercise will be held at Gardendale High School. The address is 800 Main Street, Gardendale, AL For details on the site visit the following link: Please contact John (205) or John.Hooper@adph.state.al.us if you are interested in participating or if you have suggestions for groups to recruit to help with meeting the number of volunteers needed for this exercise. It is important to have a good turn out to go through the POD, so that accurate throughput rates can be obtained for our PODs. Non CRI Counties are always welcome to participate in any CRI Training or Activity. Other Exercises Tuesday, May 1, 2012 Mass Casualty Bus Accident on May 1, 2012 in Auburn. This exercise is being conducted in conjunction with the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, Cullman County Emergency Management Agency, Lee County Emergency Management Agency, Lee County Coroner s Office, East Alabama Medical Center, and a portion of State Mortuary Operations Response Team members. Wednesday and Thursday, May 2 and May 3, 2012 ADPH Full Scale Exercise will occur on May 2 and May 3, 2012 This exercise is being conducted in conjunction with a CDC Multistate Exercise. In this exercise ADPH will receive Vendor Managed Inventory at the Receiving Staging and Storage Site. Supplies will be distributed to the Regional Distribution Site in PHA 10. PHA 10 will setup and operate a POD. The exercise is broken into two days of activities; on May 2, the RSS portion of the exercise will occur and on May 3 the PHA 10 portion of the exercise will occur. 4. New Business (Ann Brantley) Discussion Items: A. Andy Mullins Director, Center for Emergency Preparedness, Alabama Department of Public Health Overview of CEP activities and plans ARRTC training continues with most sessions booked with a waiting list; more dates may open up. Review of PHEP and HPP grants. Introduction to concept of Healthcare Coalitions which will match hospitals with their Public Health Areas resulting in more effective planning. Discussed ADPH assistance in obtaining and placing caches of emergency packs (minimal level charting, armbands etc) that can be stored such that hospitals can share if needed. This will reduce the storage requirement needed for individual hospitals to house large quantities of the emergency packs. More discussion will take place at a

4 later date. The ADPH Patient Tracking System is currently being tested; will be housed in AIMS. 5. New Business, not identified on the agenda (Ann Brantley) None Identified 6.
