1 STAFF COUNCIL GENERAL MEETING MINUTES FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2017 LA2-120 Call to order 8:38 a.m. Chair Jennifer Moran: - Welcome - Please sign in and if your name shows need I.D., please Chair and clarify contact information - Motion to approve Meeting Agenda - Jay Grosflman - Kim Glick, seconds - All in favor: aye - Approval of Minutes: Please review printed hardcopy of October 2017 Meeting minutes - Motion to approve October 2017 Meeting Minutes - Jay Grosflam - John Ciulik, seconds - All in favor: aye Chair s Report Jennifer Moran: - BeachBoard for Staff Council: if there are any corrections, please contact Chair - Special Project - VP Mary Stephens retirement gift to be presented to her at the December 2017 Staff Council Meeting. - Staff Council Chair Jennifer Moran is sewing a quilt as a gift for VP Mary Stephens. The quilt s theme are cats. Chair Jennifer Moran has brought in quilt fabric squares for Staff Council to sign.

2 Announcements: Corrie O Toole: Support Group to address high levels of stress. - Will meet Fridays from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in AS Heather Steele: A tour of the University Library archives and ORCA is in the works for Spring Vice Chair s Report: no report Secretary s Report: no report Treasurer s Report Susan Tsuji: brief explanation with Excel spreadsheet illustrating expenses Ways and Means Committee Report Erandy Guerrero: - Fundraiser at Great Mex on November 8, 2017, all day - 20% will go to Staff Council. All purchases except alcohol. - All funds are collected and used for Staff Council events and activities - Please show physical, hardcopy flyer at Great Mex on 11/8 for fundraiser - Staff Council Holiday Fundraiser: See s Candies: online shopping open until 11/23/17. - Free delivery to your office; approximate delivery date is sometime after Thanksgiving week Chair Jennifer Moran: Holiday Art Sale starts December 3 rd at the Art Galleries. - Original art pieces are made and sold by students and faculty from the School of Art. - This is a unique gift idea for the holidays! - More information will be sent out at a later time 8:53 a.m. Time Certain: President Jane Conoley - Homecoming Weekend is tomorrow (11/4) - Games, food, fun - Basketball game starts at 4:00 p.m. CSULB vs. CSUDH 2

3 - Prospector Pete will stay; however, there are discussions on adding multicultural depth to the surrounding plaza where Prospector Pete stands. - Daylight savings is this weekend - Johnpaul Jones, acclaimed Indigenous Architect, was on campus last week and presented Indigenous Design: Emerging Gifts - Discussion was held on building a potential ceremonial house for a gathering place for sacred ceremonies at Puvungna - He is going to lead a planning process - The University would like to recruit more underrepresented minority: American Indian students - Revised time, place, and manner under Campus rules and regulations: - If you have a mask, baseball bat, and/or torch, you will be asked for Identification and escorted off campus by University Police - Content- neutral policy - Will be revised annually - Open to feedback - The goal: Safety for all Students - Congratulation to the CSUEU on tentative agreement in contract negotiations with the CSU! 4 Colette Redden: Sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Tavis Smiley held a town hall meeting on campus 11/2/17 with a diverse panel, which included President Conoley, please comment - President Conoley: Heavily relying on our Inclusive Excellence Committee and Campus Climate Survey to identify and address issues. Gary Rice: VP Mary Stephen s position, any comment on recruitment? - President Conoley: Provost Brian Jersky is in charge of that. Thank you everyone who volunteered and/or participated! - List of winners will be posted on the Staff Council website soon - Pictures from the event will be posted on the website soon - 33 rd Annual Alumni, Faculty, and Staff Night November 17, p.m. Bookstore - Great discounts - 20 th Annual Cherishing Children Holiday Party will be held on December 14, 2017 from 3:00 p.m.- 6:00 The Pointe - Toy drive to collect toys for this event will begin today 11/3/17. Please donate toys by placing them in boxes found throughout campus or call Stafford Cox Stafford Cox: we need volunteers for the party, gift- wrapping sessions, and toy drive. - Homecoming is this weekend 11/4/17 starting at 11:30 a.m. - The Beach on 2 nd Street will host a 10 year Anniversary Party on December 2 nd - Discounts, speakers, party - Please be advised that the Belmont Shore Christmas Parade is on the same day Nominating Committee: Jennifer Moran - Outstanding Staff Award nominations start today. - Berta Hanson will be chairing. 5
